Top Five Board Books For Toddlers And Babies
The top five board books for toddlers and babies.
All five are heartily approved by my four year old and two year old! I have given several of them as gifts to friends and they are always welcomed.

All these board books stand up to rough play and sustain bites pretty well. I don't recommend prolonged chewing though! They are sure to be well-loved by your little ones.
These are in no particular order!
Goodnight Moon
A Board Book by Margaret Wise Brown
A sweet bedtime story where a little bunny looks around his room at various objects and then says goodnight to them. It is very lyrical and easy to read.
The pages alternate between bright colors and more calm black and white illustrations. They are very charming.
I highly recommend this board book. It is a classic story.
"Goodnight stars, goodnight air, goodnight noises everywhere." ~ Margaret Wise Brown, Goodnight Moon
Mr. Brown Can Moo, Can You?
A Board Book by Dr. Suess
One of the best Dr. Suess books! This version is a board book, so it is shorter than the regular version.
The very talented Mr. Brown can not only MOO, he can TICK and TOCK, and SPLATT SPLATT SPLATT!
This fun book has silly rhymes and typically fun Dr. Suess drawings.
My kids love making the noises along with me and I usually have to read it more than once at a sitting. It is so fun! It definitely deserves to be one of the Top 5 Board Books.
I pretty much recommend all of Dr Suess's books!
Big Red Barn
A Board Book by Margaret Wise Brown
This is another great book from Margaret Wise Brown. In this book about a day on the farm we meet all of the animals and see how they live for a day. Finally we see them bed down to sleep and peace pervades the farm.
This is another bedtime favorite of my kids. They love the drawings of the animals and the text is almost like a lullaby. A wonderful children's' book.
"And that is where the children play, but in this story the children are away. Only the animals are here today." ~ Big Red Barn, Margaret Wise Brown
Good Night Sweet Butterflies
A Board Book by Dawn Bentley
This book is very special to me. It is the first book I ever read my daughter. She still loves it now, four years later.
I know when she was little she was drawn to the sparkling butterflies and now she loves looking at everything in the pictures.
The colors in the illustrations on bright and vibrant. A section is devoted to each one of the featured colors and there is a sparkling butterfly in each one.
"...until we wake and play, on another colorful Springtime day." ~ Good Night Sweet Butterflies by Dawn Bentley
Good Night, Gorilla
A Board Book by Peggy Rathman
We received this book when my son was born. I wasn't sure about it at first. There isn't a lot of text and I felt like I had to fill in the blanks for my then two year old daughter.
Over time it won my heart. I realized it had all the features of a great board book: simple text, expressive illustrations, and sweetness.
In this book the zookeeper is locking up the zoo when the gorilla steals his keys. The gorilla comes behind him liberating animals while he doesn't notice. Eventually they all end up in the zookeeper's home. The zookeeper's wife hears all the animals say goodnight and gets out of bed and takes them back to the zoo.
The pictures are beautiful, also done by Rathmann, and she conveys the mischievousness of the playful gorilla. A beautiful board book and a lot of fun for babies and toddlers.
