What is beauty?

Updated on April 8, 2010

Is beauty skin deep?

Beauty, we probably think about this word daily. You see a woman or a man on the street, normally you're mind asks "Is he or she beautiful?". I know that I do this constantly. I ask myself every time I see a stranger, are they beautiful? What does it mean to be beautiful? Does it mean that you're good looking or is there more to that?

"Beauty is in the eye of the beholder", sure but what does that mean. I think that I'm pretty, there's another word. What's the difference between beauty and pretty?

There are so many questions for this one little word, and I think it's because we take beauty for granted. Guys, if you see a good looking girl walking down the street, you're going to want to talk to her. Well what if once you start talking to her, she turns to be a murderer or something? You're going to want to get away and fast! Ladies, what if you go on a blind date with some one your best friend set you up with and they turn out to be not to good looking, but once you start talking to them you find out that they love to spend all their free time volunteering. Do you see them as beautiful?

Beauty comes from the inside, it has nothing to do with looks. Beauty is what makes us good people. Pretty is skin deep. You can find a pretty person, but they might not be beautiful. You might find a beautiful person, but they might not be pretty. We are all caught up on what's on the outside of us, and not focusing on what's on the inside.

I challenge you to talk with a stranger and judge them as beautiful or not, I guarantee that you will want to keep doing this throughout your life, once you get to know someone well enough to really judge them as beautiful.

The more you mature the more you see beauty has nothing to do with looks, and it's a shame kids today can't see that in the roles they model themselves after. Good hub, welcome.
