Whirlwind of life

Updated on December 23, 2016

A poem from a time gone by

I was running from life

And there you were

I fell for every stupid word

Scared and lonely

Nieve and sad

I reached forth

And took your hand

Like a piece of dust

We were swept away

Towards dangerous games

That adults play

Before we knew it

Our son was born

A blessing

From a childhood gone

There i stood

A single mum

Vowing to do right

By my precious son

At the age of fifteen

With a gift from above

My heart was now truly

Madly in love

About being a teenage mother

I wrote this poem to express, how I felt about becoming a young mother. It was not an experience i took lightly.

Becoming a young mum is not easy, especially when the peers you usually surround yourself with remain immature.

At every turn you will be watched and evaluated, by almost everyone around you. You need to commit yourself fully to doing it right. Unfortunately, you will lose a lot of friends but this is necessary to help your child grow and help you stay focused on the right path. Some may stay in your life. Those are the friends who are prepared, to grow and mature with you and your child.

My son today is 21 years old. Big, strong, responsible and respectful of the world around him.

I am proud to have been given the opportunity, to watch my son grow. I am sure I made mistakes but I tried hard and told him I loved him all the time. He has turned in to a fine young man. Blessed is what I am!

...well that is quite a life affirming story - and your son should be so very thankful and proud to have you as his loving mum - my mum was my best friend - she passed away back in 2004 at 83 years of age - but she made me the man whom I am today .....

      dallaswriter, epigramman and kirutaye.

Yes it was a whirlwind back then but it changed my life for the better. I do not like to think about what path i might have taken, if it were not for my son.

I am very happy to share this with you and am so happy that you enjoyed it.

epigramman - it sounds like your mum, was a beautiful lady. I am sure when she looks down upon you, she would be proud of the wonderful man you are today.

Thankyou everyone, glad you enjoyed it :)

Thankyou heartfortheword. I do feel blessed. No i was not a single mum for long but at that moment, in the hospital - that is how i felt. Many peole in my life disappeared. People felt they may catch the pregnancy disease lol. I met a wonderful man, when my son was three and we have been together ever since. I am so glad you liked it

My mother raised me on her own, and I think she did a great job, with not much to work with. It takes a special kind of Lady to do something like that, you should be proud of sticking with it. Thanks also, as your poem reminded me of my mom and she's been gone a while...Made my Sunday! P.S. I agree, they should have spent the money on the hospitals instead of TV's :)...W
