Wild At Heart: An American Love Story

Updated on August 2, 2013

My Review

Filled with raw emotion, real characters and artfully crafted dialogue, this fun, easy read is even better than the top-rated David Lynch film of the same title starring Nicholas Cage and Laura Dern as Sailor Ripley and Lula Pace along with Willem Dafoe and Crispin Glover.

Barry Gifford's raw dialog is packed with realism and unforgettable quotes. Even if you know the story from the film, the book won't fail to pull you in and keeping you wondering what happens on the very last page. Wild At Heart is only one book in the series. If you're craving more of Barry Gifford and his quirky love-smitten duo, check out the Wild Life of Sailor and Lula amongst others.

Once you read the first chapter, you'll know why the Sailor and Lula series is so beloved among film fans and lit buffs. In the book, you'll also find a captivating story-within-a-story from aspiring author Johnnie Farragut. No spoilers. You'll just have to read it for yourself.
