Starting a Writer's Class

Updated on June 8, 2015

A wise mentor once said to me, "Your gift is your wealth." So after giving this some thought I decided that because my gifting is in writing and editing that I would pursue this further and so went on to complete my Diploma in Professional Writing and Editing, and am currently working through my Bachelor's of Professional Writing Editing and Publishing. I advertised in the local newspaper that I would be holding writing classes and held my breath as I waited to see who would respond. I wrote my own curriculum for a twelve month period including topics such as - fiction writing, the business of writing, non-fiction writing, life writing, e-book and blog writing, editing, and writing for magazines and newspapers and several other topics. We have four people in class and we have really enjoyed excursions together to bookstores, and historical sites and all learnt so much from each other. We make the most of our time together and all have learnt to glean from one another each week as we come together. So to use my gift to help others has helped me also and has become a stream of income that I had not previously even considered.
