You Should Try some Seth Godin

Updated on August 19, 2013

Who Is Seth Godin?

Unless you have been living under a rock inside a cave on an undiscovered island in the Bermuda Triangle for the past ten years you've probably heard the name Seth Godin somewhere on the web, amazon, YouTube, or TED.

So who is this weird looking Seth guy? Seth is a bestselling author of more than a dozen books. With topics ranging from marketing to the spreading of ideas while managing both customers and employees with respect.

I have been watching, reading, and listening to what Seth has to say for 5+ years now. (BTW another great thing is to read the books he recommends). I have not only found inspiration, but I have made huge strides in both my professional and personal life since applying some of Seth's ideals and thoughts to my sphere.

Purple Cow: Transform Your Business by Being Remarkable - by Seth Godin

I love this book! Part kick in the pants, part executable plan, Seth Godin's Purple Cow shows people how to add distinction-and avoid extinction in our rapid changing economy.

I so enjoyed reading this book due to how Seth presented the information in a fresh and entertaining manner. I own my own business and let me tell you that Seth is right. While reading this book I became aware that very few products and services are remarkable, so the few that are, will definitely get attention. I know that reading this will help any small business owner such as myself.

Linchpin: Are You Indispensable? - by Seth Godin

Linchpin proved to confirm my thoughts on, just how outdated university teaching model really is, and continues to inspire me well after my research on the topic was completed. Linchpin is an important book, with very open minded approaches for anyone who enjoys learning and working with purpose.

Tribes: We Need You to Lead Us - by Seth Godin

This was the first book of Seth's that I read. While the content is repetitive at times. Anyone who is a manager of people or in position of inspiration to large groups of people should read this. The book itself is a very easy read. It's a good refresher course on leading with some new insights on how to do it by being inspirational not just a by the book type of leader.

The Icarus Deception: How High Will You Fly? - by Seth Godin

If you are new to Seth Godin and his style of writing I would give it 5 stars. But, if you are like me, and have been reading and following Seth for a number of years you may be left wondering what was new from the last book.

I appreciate the concept that one should make art as their work. This book states this clearly, but I have to say that is does little else. The lack of specific examples, lack of cohesion in the narrative, and the fact that he expresses a lot of contempt for negative reviews by online power houses like Amazon left me feeling a little disapointed from the typical Seth Godin writings.

He's changed the way I look at things. His thoughts on education in the STOP STEALING DREAMS video impacted me deeply.

I also highlighted him on my lens about ways to spark creativity. His messages are some of the best I know. I appreciate you spreading the good news man:)
