2 Ways a Round Kitchen Table Can Double as a Kitchen Cart

Updated on June 7, 2010

When your kitchen lacks sufficient counter space it can be difficult to prepare your meals. Complex recipes require multiple dishes, all sorts of cutlery, varying sized cutting boards, and of course the pots and pans so when counter space is minimal things can get kind of scrunched. A kitchen cart is possibly one of the best ways to instantly add kitchen counter space when you need it but not everyone can afford these luxury items. This is especially so if your kitchen is on the small side. Sometimes you just have to make due with what you have already.

One piece of furniture that just about everyone has in their kitchen from the very beginning is the round kitchen table. Kitchen tables are generally the primary spot for meals in most homes and when they aren’t providing comfortable seating area during dinnertime they make for decorative accent pieces and work places. But a kitchen table doesn’t have to be used solely for eating, you can use it for cooking too.

Here are two reasons a kitchen table can double as a kitchen cart:

Counter Height Kitchen Table:

If you have a tall enough round kitchen table, one that is the same height as your kitchen counter, all you need to do is push it up against the counter to make extra space for your cooking hardware. You can even designate it for a specific purpose like chopping vegetables or tenderizing meat. If you have multiple cooks in the kitchen one can man the kitchen table and the other can man the kitchen counter.

Round Kitchen Table with Drawers and Cabinets:

Some round kitchen table models offer a variety of different cabinets and drawers that can be used like the shelves on a kitchen cart. You can add wheels to the feet of your table so that you can roll it around the kitchen transporting various goods and necessary tools or you can leave it as a stationary island well within your reach.

When you have a decent sized round kitchen table there is no need for you to go out and buy a kitchen cart or portable kitchen island. Make use of the furniture you have already, it’s multi-purpose as long as you are willing to make it so.
