2012 Olympics creating new demand for rental properties

Updated on August 23, 2011

If you have an unoccupied property in central London or its surrounding locations, or a number of properties available to rent in the area, the Olympics could be very good news for you. Rental demand in London is steadily increasing, thanks to the thousands of people who are working to ensure that the event goes ahead as scheduled and the millions of participants and spectators who are expected to attend the events.

Property rental need not be a stressful experience, there are many rental companies out there, who are able will to with the rental of your property, including any paperwork, for a small fee. The potential earnings from rentals are expected to skyrocket, especially later this year, and into 2012 - you could make yourself a great deal of money. You don’t even need to be situated nearby to the property to let it out, a letting agent will show potential tenants around on your behalf and assess their suitability for tenancy. Now could just be the perfect time to get on the London rental market – demand is there already, and this will only increase as we get closer to the big event.

So, where are the most popular rental locations? It would appear that rental demand is not restricted to a handful of areas, but rather is apparent in the whole of London and its outskirts. People who are currently working on the Olympics sites generally only require rental accommodation for a set period of time and flats and smaller houses seem to be more in demand than larger properties. If you are a contractor working on an Olympics project, or you are planning to stay in the capital to watch the games, it may be a good idea to rent a property slightly away from the centre – this way, you can commute to your destination easily, but avoid some of the expected crowds.

Speed is key – if you are looking for a rental property in London, you will need to move very quickly indeed! For every London rental property entering the market, dozens if not hundreds of people can apply, even in areas that are viewed as less desirable. It’s therefore very important to keep a close eye on rental developments to be the first through the door.Removal companies in London understand that people may need to move very quickly into a rental property, and this turnaround speed is likely to increase even more in the lead up to theOlympics.
