19 DIY Home Décor Ideas on a Budget

Updated on April 6, 2016

Here's 19 of my favorite DIY home décor ideas and projects that you can complete in no time at all. Most of the ideas you can probably do with materials lying around your home.

You can check out the full list of tutorials and instructions here DIY Home Decor Ideas

1) Wallpaper Covered Socket

This is a lightning quick décor idea if you want to jazz up a room with materials you more than likely have lying around your home.

Simply grab some wallpaper with a nice or complimentary pattern, and paste it to your outlet cover.

2) Update a Hand Me Down Dresser

Paint your dresser white first (or any neutral color) then add some really awesome gift wrap on the top - you can use Modpodge to make sure it adheres properly.

3) Letters From Reclaimed Lumber

This is a great idea if you have a big bare wall that needs some "luv" - and is an even better project if you have some spar lumber lying around - and the more weathered it is the better (in my humble opinion!).

4) Silverware Artwork

If you have some old frames and silverware you no longer have a use for then get your spray paint out and make this delicious wall art.

You may need to flatten out the cutlery first - but other than that - there's not much work involved in this fabulous project.

5) DIY Textured Paint

There's a lot of ways to create a textured effect (like tying rubber bands around your roller etc) - But here's a new way: Just wrap wool around the paint roller and you'll get this lovely dappled effect.

6) Glass Tiles Instead Of Grout In The Bathroom Tile Floor

If bling is your thing, then why not re-purpose glass tiles to replace grout when you tile on your bathroom floor.

Totally awesome!

7) Washer & Dryer Makeover

This is such a great idea!

You can use any color electrical tape you like to makeover your washer and dryer - and it's also a great way for people who rent properties to add their own touch to their surroundings (because not only is it easy to put on - it's even easier to remove it!)

8) DIY Pallet Coffee Table Idea

Theres a zillion pallet tutorials doing the rounds now - but I really like this one! The only difference I'd make though is maybe doubling up the pallets to get more height.

Don't forget to click the link at the top of the page to get the full tutorial!

9) Floating Shelf

A floating shelf is great for small spaces, but even better when you add a "faux" set of legs. You can use stencils or simply trace out your own design with a pencil and then color it in with paint.

10) Spray Painted Bottles

Seriously cool! If you're into recycling (or is it upcycling?) then why not grab a few old bottles and spray paint them a color that'll compliment your interior and use them as vases.

11) Textured Wallpaper on Stair Risers

Great way to add some texture to your stairs. You can even use darker colors if you're afraid of the marks - although it's a good excuse to get people to remove their shoes in the home!

12) Add Fabric to Your Wall

If you want to make a feature wall then you can add some ultra cool fabric.

Covering a wall with fabric may seem simple - but actually, it can be quite tricky, so you may need for help for this one (and you'll definitely need some liquid starch!).

13) Upcycled Pouf

If you've got an old piece of furniture that could do with a makeover - why not transform it into a modern style pouf - the main work you need to do is reupholster the top part and paint the body section.

14) Dip Dyed Chairs

Again this is such an easy project with tons of 'wow factor'.

So first you need to choose your paint - and the great thing about dip dying is that you can totally match it up to an accent color in the room you want to put the chair in.

You'll also need some painter’s tape, a ruler and some painter’s paper.

15) DIY: Rope as Curtain Ring

If you're still saving up for your 40 foot yacht and yearn for some nautical flair - why not add some ropes instead of curtain rings? You can use hemp rope if you're looking to go more eco/organic.

16) Old Rhinestone Necklaces Make Great Curtain Ties

If you don't want to mess around with your curtain rings - you can still transform your curtains with decorative tie backs. You could DIY some bead ropes, tassels, jewels, ribbon or make your own offcuts of fabric.

17) Spray Painted Wood Chairs

If you want to infuse your kitchen with burst of color - then grab a spray can and go to town on some old wooden chairs. This looks especially cool if your kitchen walls are white!

18) Get the Wallpapered Look Easily With Patterned Paint Rollers

Wallpaper is mucho expensive (especially the ones with the nice pattern!) - so if you want to get that wallpaper vibe without blowing the budget - then get your hands on some paint rollers and go to town.

(I don't literally mean go to town, or else you'll never get the job done!)

19) Window Coffee Table

I love this! This is all about taking old items that seemingly no longer have a use - like an old window for example - and then giving it a new lease of life by using it as a coffee table.

These are great ideas. I do a lot of DIY . I used contact paper on the light switches in our farm house in the kids bedrooms. It looks great and easy to do. I also love the furniture ideas . I have redone a few pieces for only the cost of the stain . Love that it's done on a budget . Paintable wallpaper also works for cupboard doors. Keep up the great hub. Following .

Instead of wrapping paper I used a load of old Beano magazines which I stuck to the top using wallpaper paste. I also have a glass top panel which sits on top - it looks really good! Thank you for the inspiration!
