8 Ways to Improve Traffic to your Real Estate Site

Updated on July 14, 2011

Improved traffic means more users to your real estate site and more users mean maximum sales conversion and increased profit. This is the reason why it becomes important to improve traffic to your property business site. And to do this, today I am sharing with you a few ways to increase traffic to real estate site and also build brand image online. I will also give you a few tips to enhance your social media activities.

1. Website Design and Loading Time

Right upon entering the home page, the design of your real estate site must look quite unique and different from other property portals on the Internet. Single or multiple page loads must take significantly less time when compared to sites of your real estate business competitors. Third party ad placements are okay but should not be too messy. Any popup ads must be removed immediately from the site as it annoys users. Also, your main purpose of hosting the site is earning commissions from real estate business and not from cheap ads. The site must look clutter free and user friendly when compared to its competitors.

2. Property Search

The property search widget on homepage of your real estate site should be set to the affordable segment (lowest price available to sell or buy properties) keeping in mind increased demand of affordable housing among real estate buyers and investors. This will also enhance the usability and visibility among prospective clients who are looking to buy property in affordable segment and will help in letting them initiate their use of the site. This will also help them convert into potential buyers or sellers increasing commissions and overall profit for real estate business. Always remember that maximum unique visitors of real estate sites are small scale buyers or investors.

3. Photographs

The photographs on various real estate news, investment articles, and home loan blogs must be of high resolution. This can be made possible by obtaining photographs from copyright-free photograph distribution sites like Wikimedia Commons with an attribution to the used photograph or simultaneously staff members can click photographs of various real estate locations in their area and upload them along the news and articles. Property site owners should also obtain copyright for each and every photograph used on their site so that if a photograph goes viral in yahoo or google images, competitors do not take advantage by uploading them on their own sites. Also, original photographs make the page look more genuine and unique than other pages on the web on the same topic.

4. Content

All old and new articles need to be modified and edited for spelling mistakes, sentence structure, and other errors. Content should be updated on a regular basis to increase search engine rankings of the complete site. No duplicate content should be allowed on the site.

5. FAQ and Q&A Section

Any comments left by users on questions and answers section or in the real estate forums must be moderated and answered immediately. This shows that the site and its users are very active. Also, online users are looking ahead for their answers and if they will not get them in a timely manner, then they can switch to other sites for answers (competitors). Comments also help in reindexing or at least refreshment of the page in search engines. This also helps in getting more traffic in the long term. Also, an email or an SMS for the answer must be sent to the user for his/her question. If a user will leave a thanks note that will be a plus point for the site, as more users will get to know that their questions are being responded in a timely fashion and will engage in multiple activities around the site.

6. Online Reputation Management: When searching for keywords like “yourpropertysite scam”, “yourpropertysite fraud”, or “yourpropertysite complaints” if you encounter links to any negative reviews, those links must be immediately followed up. This can be done by recruiting a separate team for ORM (Online Reputation Management) where people from the team can write comments on the negative reviews in a calm and smart way. Sometimes, negative reviews on the Internet are written by jealous competitors of your business site.

7. Social Media Activities

Facebook pages and Twitter accounts of the company must be optimized with unique content and not the same content, which is available on your site or other sites where you have promoted the site. Remember the famous Google Panda update; the tweaks are happening every month. Instead of mentioning, “The portal belongs to a renowned group or was launched 2 to 3 years ago and has become the leader in the industry”, you can mention the recent achievements of the company. History of the company is very important, so the user get to know about the company, but people would also love to know about the current trends and targets set and achieved by the company. You can also include how your property site was able to provide real estate solutions to so many property buyers, sellers, investors, or people looking to rent out/rent in properties. Search engines love unique and fresh content on every page online and de-rank duplicate content and same is the case with facebook and other social media pages.

8. Building Buzz around your Brand

To buzz up social media activities and search engine rankings for your real estate site, all real estate experts from at least the content team must engage in guest blogging or at least guest commenting on real estate forums and social media sites (hint: facebook and orkut pages on real estate or property investment themes) with a link back to your real estate site’s homepage or any other page of your site required for the purpose. No users should be allowed to comment anonymously on other sites and must register with the site before doing this. Any negative feedback or comments on social media must be managed in a polite and smart way. This is important because interested users always keep a check on what is happening on the page they liked or the group they have joined (remember they get an alert from FB for each and every update). This is also important for online reputation management (ORM) activities.

According to my experience, any real estate site can improve traffic and build brand image online with the above mentioned ways and techniques. Writing and publishing original user-friendly content, digital interactive media updates, and real estate contests on social media sites are also helpful in increasing search engine rankings and traffic for the whole website.
