A Holiday Mule Poem

Updated on December 16, 2014

A Holiday Mule Poem :

Holy God in Heaven,

you knew our Betsy well,

and how she could run just like she had jingle bells.

She was a loveable, sweet , tender , yet strong little mule,

she could be naughty, or nice, and could run forever on a bail of fuel,

over a strawberry patch ,and a cucumber patch,

thus causing me the longest scratch,

of which the worst of brush, or stickers could match.

Yes Holy God, Betsy was her name alright,

and mischief was her game so bright.

She jumped the highest fence in the world ,

as rabbits , squirrels, cows, and coons ran round, and round trees like stirred up honey bees.

Betsy also jumped a ditch,

then stood up high,

pawing straight up high,

right up high at the glorious sky,

like a lovely storybook Juliet

princess with so much pride.

I pulled her rope that I had managed to get around her neck,

as she danced so dazzled, as she waltzed a highway that could have claimed her life.

Yet God saved her so that , and eighteen wheeler would not break her neck.

Fast, and furious did that monster roar, and come screaming , and blaring,

nearly running over Betsy's dear life, and mine like some runaway train, to kill us both in vain.

Had it not been for our God,

we would have been past tensed indeed,

but God knows best , and about all of eternity , and some more ,

and of our majestic universe, endless, or even more.

Thank you Holy God, and Father Almighty ,for this world, and , for you're mercy,

where everyone's dreams go on, and on forever,

from shore to shore,

amidst our oceans, mountain peaks, and where magnificence majesties explore.

Happy Holidays to all our sweet, and beautiful creatures, and critters , and humans of our world.

Dear DW Davis : Thank you , for visiting, and glad you liked Betsy. She was special, but then again, all critters are usually special . They give a priceless gift to us all which is affection, and love in their own ways. God Bless You.

I smiled as I pictured Betsy's antics as described in your poem. You made good use of figurative language to make her come alive for the reader and your affection for Betsy was clear. Thank you for an enjoyable poem.

This is such an uplifting poem in a world where movies about Korean dictators can get us blown up and people are hurting one another for no cause! Thank you for this.
