Affordable Ideas For Wall Decorations

Updated on August 30, 2013

If you're fed up with the looks of your home and the rooms seem gloomy and dull, there is a great way to spice things up and create a more cheerful atmosphere. And don't worry these decorations will not cost a fortune. Here is how you can decorate your walls cheaply.

1. Blackboard paint

Changing the paint of your walls sometimes is not enough. Well, why not use blackboard paint then? This paint is a creative way to not only change the look of your home but actually make the wall useful. With this type of paint you can create a calendar, a message board or just a canvas for your kids, where they can draw with chalk and not make a mess. It doesn't cost that much and can be fun for the whole family.

2.Spray paint

Graffiti is another very affordable way of introducing more colours to your home and even create a masterpiece in a certain room. Of course painting with graffiti will require a certain skill but believe me, if you have a friend that can paint with graffiti , he'll be more than glad to help out and sometimes he'll even do it for free.

If you have a set of colourful plates in your possession why not hang them on the wall. This will bring much more colour and the options and colours are countless. When you get bored with a certain set you can always change them without having to do heavy paint work.

4.Photocopy art

Make your own art. Just put a certain (even photocopied) piece of art in a frame and voila, you'll have the look you want for your walls. Arrange them on the wall like you want and give it a sophisticated and colourful look.

5.Natural look

Want to bring a more natural look to your home? Well, the easiest way is to use sea shells from that last vacation or a piece of dry wood that you found near the sea. And the best thing about this is, you don't have to pay for anything you'll find everything you need on the beach.

Shelves decoration

Putting shelves is a great idea that will also be very handy if you don't have enough space for books, photos and etc. You can pretty much go with anything from the ordinary shelves to the very fashionable and great looking honeycomb ones. And the best part is that you can make them yourself or ask a handyman, using ordinary plywood.

Fan of geography? Why not place a giant map of the world on the wall. This is great for families with kids where geography homework questions can be answered right away, even in the kitchen!

Mirror decoration

Mirrors can be a real treat to otherwise stuffy and small rooms. They open up the space a lot and make the room seem bigger. Just arrange all of the tiny mirrors you can find lying around in your home on the wall. This way you can check how awesome you look much more often!

9.String art

Have you heard of string art? You have now. It's an easy way to create a very colourful look for your home. Of course, this is for people that have a lot of spare time and look for a great hobby.

10.Foil tape

Foil tape is great when you want a more shiny look for a certain room. You can tape it the way you like most and create a modernistic look for a kitchen or a living room.

11. Constellation canvas

Do you need more light in a room. Then create a constellation canvas. Buy an ordinary painting canvas, poke holes in your favourite constellation pattern and put string lights (otherwise known as Christmas lights) through the holes.

12. Carpets

Putting rugs on walls may seem a bit outdated but why not do it the modern way? Put a piece of the rug into a frame and it will look like a an awesome painting.

13. CD decoration

For all of you that already use USB's now, you can recycle your old CD's by gluing them on the wall. The will create a very music oriented atmosphere and bring more light into an otherwise gloomy looking room.
