Energy Efficient Whirlpool Cabrio

According to consumer reports, in the past, front loaders have done best at energy efficiency tests. However, that is changing as more and more high efficiency top loaders hit the market.

Whirlpool builds its Cabrio as the largest top loader that a homeowner can buy. It also meets tougher federal government energy efficiency standards by using a low water level like the kind typically found in front loaders.

An eco monitor is included on the front of the unit that lets you know how energy efficient that they are. Whirlpool says its top loader Cabrio spins about as fast as any front loader which will help to extract more water with each wash. At between $700 to $1000, the Whirlpool Cabrio costs less than most high efficiency top loaders that Consumer Reports has tested.

Best Whirlpool Cabrio Washer to Buy?

After shopping for the Whirlpool Cabrio, you'll notice that there are a few options to purchase. The cheapest models have the smallest capacity, obviously. If you have a small family then this option might be right for you.

My favorite is the Whirlpool Cabrio Platinum. This unit has the biggest capacity for top loaders on the market. The only comparable one larger is a GE model that is 40% more expensive for a mere .2 cu ft.

Features for the Whirlpool Cabrio Platinum; let's take a look at the WTW8900BC model which has a sanitary cycle that is perfect for moms who have kids or people with pets. Bacteria that was tested, include: K, pneumonia, P, aeruginosa and S, aureus.

  • 16 Cycles
  • 5 Temperatures
  • 1,100 RPM Max Spin Speed
  • Adaptive Wash Technology
  • Water Heater Glass Lid
  • 4.8 cu. ft. Capacity
  • Deep Clean Option
  • Sanitary Cycle with Heater
  • Made in the USA
  • 10 year Warranty
  • 5 Star Customer Rating

Buying a top loader, instead of a front loader, means no crouching down to retrieve clothes while putting strain on your back. There are no locking bolts on this unit to store in case the washer must be moved. Another disadvantage of front loaders is that they can create mold colonies and staining on the door seal. Top loaders are king!

This top loader washer is ACTUALLY childproof unlike some front loader units. Purchasing a high efficiency, low water usage, and energy star machine is better on your water and electric bill AND better for the environment. This washer is incredibly quiet! You may even have to open the laundry room door to see if it's still running. The washer is so quiet because of its quiet spin technology that offers a unique suspension system that senses each load, making upper-floor installation possible.

There is a convenient light in the washtub that lets you find all of the socks in the bottom of the basin; as well as the fact that it casts a nice glow in the laundry room. It also shuts off automatically after a few minutes to save on energy. This washer has an average 11 year lifespan.

Whirlpool Cabrio (Gas or Electric) Dryer

When buying any clothes dryer you have a choice between gas or electric. You also have these choices with the Whirlpool Cabrio Platinum dryers. To consider features, let's take a look at the WED8900BC model, which has a 7.6 cubic foot capacity.

  • Control Lock
  • 7.6 cu. ft. Capacity
  • EcoBoost Option with Eco Monitor
  • Quick Refresh Steam Cycle
  • Adjustable End-of-Cycle Signal
  • Reversible Door
  • 29" Electric High Efficiency Dryer
  • Ultra Noise Reduction System
  • Quick Refresh Steam Cycle
  • Wrinkle Shield Plus Option
  • Made in the USA
  • 10 year Warranty
  • #22 Best Seller Amazon

This dryer has an average 12 year lifespan! Combining the washer and dryer will result in monthly electric savings on your bill.

Conclusion

The Whirlpool Cabrio has the largest tub capacity of any top loaders for your money. This is fantastic! For a mom with a large family, just this fact alone makes this purchase a no-brainer! In fact, there is only one other machine currently on the market with a bigger tub capacity, which is a GE model, but do you want to pay 40% more for a mere .2 cu ft. increase? Heck no!

Front load machines have been the most popular, as a trend, until this unit debuted! Why? Front load machines are hard on your back, take longer to work, and also vibrate and move around quite a bit. Front loaders are not recommended unless you have a solid concrete floor. Whirlpool's Cabrio solves ALL of these problems! Now, you can clean your laundry with similar (or better!) cleaning power than a front loader, with less time!

To start saving money on your electric and water bills, purchase the Whirlpool Cabrio Platinum washer or dryer today!

      PegCole17,

Thank you again for letting us know the issue with unbalanced loads in your Cabrio WTW7600XW. I looked this up on Whirlpool and I believe this model is one of the older standard Cabrio and not the new Cabrio Platinum. In fact, this particular model WTW7600XW has been discontinued by Whirlpool. The newer Cabrio Platinum models now have a quiet spin technology that offers a unique suspension system that senses each load, making upper-floor installation possible.

I know that doesn't help you now, but at least shoppers will know to look for a washer with quiet spin technology to avoid a loud washer.

      Sincerely, Mel

      Hi Mel,

Mine is Model WTW7600XW1 Type 580, a top loader. I'm getting used to it but I still miss my old Maytag that was in the family for twelve years. My dog barked at this one for the first couple of months whenever I would operate it. It sounds like a helicopter taking off.

PegCole17, Do you own the Cabrio or the Cabrio Platinum? From my research on this unit the Cabrio Platinum is the one to purchase. I'm curious which washer that you own. My previous negative experience with an Admiral washer is regarding the unbalancing of loads as well. The Admiral washer is so loud when you even just put normal size loads in it that it shakes and moves across the floor. The Cabrio Platinum is supposed to spin the load just as fast as a front loader, which is why front loaders are able to get most of the water out and be more energy efficient when also drying your clothes. - Please let us know which Cabrio that you have & which model number so we can keep this in mind. Thank you for your comments & honest feedback.

      Sincerely, Mel

Bravewarrior, I have been receiving a lot of good feedback about purchasing appliances at Sears to. I think this would be a great place to get your next washer or dryer. Thank you for the tip. :-) Sincerely, Mel

ThissMissyMiss, me too! I am really hoping that my husband will consider purchasing us a new washer at least that is energy efficient because I think we would start saving on our electric and water bills immediately.

My review would be quite different having purchased this model (Cabrio) washer and dryer. Very noisy operating and the unbalanced load signal keeps me hovering nearby during use when washing large items like the bedspread. I do wash larger loads than your video shows and perhaps that is the issue.

I'll keep this in mind if my washer and dryer give out on me. I do have a Whirlpool Accubake oven and I love it. I've had it for probably about 18 years.

I usually buy my large appliances from Sears. They have locations all over the country and provide good service, when needed. In addition to Kenmore they sell all the major brands.

I just love the new Whirlpool commercials, don't you?
