Breville Ikon 900-Watt Variable Speed Juice Extractor

Breville BJE510XL Ikon 900-Watt Variable-Speed Juice Extractor is a durable stainless steel juice extractor which presents a five-speed juicing system that lets users take control over the whole juicing experience. This innovation makes for efficient use of resource and energy, which only premium brands can offer, such as Breville.

This review will show you about how Breville cares for the environment through the outstanding features of this product and provide its users the freshest and most natural juice extracts.

Unique Features:

Breville BJE510XL Ikon 900-Watt Variable-Speed Juice Extractor implements a unique five-speed smart juicing system to make the juicing process energy-efficient. This system is backed by an equally efficient disc component which extracts up to thirty and forty percent more juice and nutrients, respectively, than other juicing appliance.

Parts and Design Of Breville Ikon 900 Watt Juice Extractor

The machine is basically made up of the Unique Direct Central Feed System, the nutri disc, a heavy duty motor (enclosed in a stainless steel covering where the on/off button, LCD panel and speed dial are perched), and a pulp and juice container. Anyone will surely fall in love with the design because the juicer’s parts are effortless to detach and easy to clean.

How does Breville BJE510XL Ikon Juice Extractor work?

The extraction process begins by putting food into the feed system. The feed stands atop the juice extractor like a chimney. With the size of its opening, the 3-inch extra wide feed chute can swallow a whole apple (or cucumber) at once. A food pusher is used to thrust forth fruits and vegetables onto the blades. The pusher shuts the feed system’s opening to prevent pulp from flying around. The food, then, travels down to the nutri disc to be digested.

Breville uses a patented mesh filter basket (nutri disc) to extract the juice efficiently. The disc spins violently fast and is capable of rotating up to 13,000 turns per minute to ensure it evokes the maximum fluid out of fruits and vegetables. The extracted juice flows straight to the juice jug (or glass, whichever you prefer) and the pulp stays on the other side of the machine, ready for collection or cleaning. The juicer has a pulp container to handle residue. A top cover is also present to prevent food from messing all over the place.

The extraction process is controlled using the speed dial and guided by the LCD speed indicator located in the face of the juicer. A safety lock is also installed to ensure that everything is settled and the juicer doesn’t disassemble once the extracting process has begun.

Juicer Speed

With blades that spin up to 13,000 rpm (revolutions per minute), the Breville Ikon can fill a glass with fresh juice in just 5 seconds. The appliance has five varying speeds, level 5 being the fastest. The lowest (level 1), spins at around 6,500 rpm.

Level 1 is suitable for soft fruits and vegetables such as watermelon, tomato, grapes and blueberries. Denser foods such as apple, pineapple, broccoli and beetroot, however, have to be crushed using a higher speed. To ensure that you juice your foods effectively, refer to the manual (speed selector table) to learn about the specific speeds for specific foods you are working with. The pulp container and the LCD panel also possess the speed selector table.

The use of the five-speed juicing system is very important and should not be taken for granted. Misalign combinations of food and speed may cause damage to the unit. For example, hard food plus low speed may strain the motor. All-around care and observance should be implemented during usage.

The Health Benefits

BJE510XL Ikon is certainly for everybody: office workers, gym trainers, health buffs, obese people, athletes, and everyone who wish to reap nature’s wonder to achieve a healthy looking body inside and out. Fresh juice does miracles to the body; it relaxes and heals the body the natural way. People who get substantial amount of natural juice will go a long way. That’s what Breville offers the market – juice of outstanding taste and quality.

Juice Quality

The juice quality of Breville Ikon is excellent. Some people feel much better when they take their daily dose of vitamins and nutrients out of fruits and vegetables. A lot of them prefer the juice form because it is very much enjoying to consume it that way. Breville juicers are designed to serve the healthiest and tastiest produce a juicer can make.

Breville’s patented juicing system extracts the maximum juice while retaining most of the nutrients out of your raw greens. Enzymes and vitamins are kept in their natural form, even after the extraction, because this juicer only transfers less than 1.8 degrees Fahrenheit of heat during the extraction process. This amount of heat is just enough to prevent essential nutrients from escaping.

In a study conducted by the National Measurements Institute (Australia) along with an accredited laboratory in August, 2011, the average yield of juice produced by BJE510XL Ikon was 69.5%. This means that the extraction process was able to retain almost 70% of vitamins and nutrients after the food was crushed.

Breville delivers juice that’s meant to be enjoyed. It also has a built-in froth separator at the juice jug’s lid to prevent foaming. Some of you might not want pulpy and grainy particles in their juice.

Tip: Make sure to remove the juice jug’s lid before transferring the contents to another glass.

Assembling & Cleaning:

This Breville juicer is very easy to assemble (and disassemble for cleaning purposes). One can easily figure out the locations for each specific part by looking at the end-product’s picture and with the help of the manual. The manual provides an 8-step tutorial on how to setup the appliance with each step paired with a corresponding diagram so that none gets lost. The manner of talking used is straightforward, non-technical and lack complexity.

Cleaning doesn’t get any harder as well. The parts are detachable so it is effortless to clean even the innermost areas that are clogged with pulp or other unwelcome particles that could lessen the life expectancy and efficiency of the product.

The parts can be washed with soapy water and a soft damp cloth manually, although most parts (top cover, the pulp container, the nutri disc and the juice jug) are top shelf dishwasher-friendly. The food pusher, however, should not be cleaned using a dishwasher.

Everything is washable except the motor base, of course. The motor base must only be wiped with a soft damp cloth and then left to dry afterwards.

The package comes with a cleaning brush with a flat-end and a nylon brush-end which allows for easy cleaning of the nutri disc. Use the brush when cleaning the nutri disc to prevent damage. It is also advisable to soak the nutri disc in hot soapy water for ten minutes before brushing.

Cleaning Tips:

  • Don’t use any abrasive scouring pads or cleaner as these materials may scratch the plastic surface. No using of strong chemicals, either.
  • Before cleaning the juicer, make sure to turn off and unplug the cords correctly.
  • Breville is very easy to clean. However, it would still be better to implement the ‘clean as you go’ approach. After every use, make sure that they are properly disassembled and soaked in soapy water to make it easier later on to brush off residues.
  • You may also just line a grocery bag at the opposite side of the juice nozzle so you wouldn’t have to use the pulp container anymore for less cleaning.

The Good And The Bad

  • Top-quality – Juice quality is closes to natural
  • Amazing price – costing around 200 dollars, it’s not really that cheap, but it’s worth every buck.
  • Easy cleanup – with the intelligent design, it only takes several minutes to clean.
  • Easy setup – the parts are easy to assemble and equally easy to detach for safekeeping.
  • Peaceful – runs quietly even with hard foods.
  • Wide-mouth – the feed chute is wide enough. Paves for minimal chopping.

  • Huge – The dimensions are too large for a counter.
  • No replacement blades – the unavailability of replacement is going to be a problem once the blades wear out.
  • Sensitive surface – surfaces are sensitive to scratches.

Final Note!

Give props to Breville for innovating its line of juicers. Not all juicer manufacturers give their customers the ability to be flexible. They found the best way to extract juice out of fruits and vegetables by providing varying speeds and not just stick to one setting. Another score for Breville for valuing its customer’s health and making sure that juice is closest to natural when it comes out of the juicer.
