Updated on September 27, 2011

Get It Together With a Bath Caddy?

We may use a variety of products, tools, and toys in the bath. Keeping what we need on hand can be a challenge, especially if you like to keep things organized and uncluttered. Often the best solution is a bath caddy. They can be used to organize in many situations.

1. These storage containers are perfect in dorm rooms and other group living situations, where the user has to tote their bath essentials to a shower down the hall.

2. They are also perfect in any bathroom where the bath tools overwhelm the available shelf space. In some households, every family member has their own, to tote in and out of the bath rather than cluttering the space with a variety of soaps and shampoos.

3. For those who like to relax in the bath they can be a place to keep things up out of the water but easily in reach; things like a book or magazine, a manicure set, some lotions, candles, a glass of wine, and so forth.

4. Certainly they a perfect for young children, who enjoy having a variety of toys on hand at bath time, without leaving them strewn about all of the time.

On this page you can see some affordable bath caddies, from the functional to the sublime, which can allow you to relax in the bath without a worry.

Finding the Right Bath Caddy

A caddy can be a necessity in your bath for a variety of reasons. From holding bath toys for kids to performing the function of keeping bath essentials organized and easily in reach.

Before buying you need to know what purpose you need this organizer to have. You will find plastic bath caddies that are great for young kids with lots of toys to entertain them at bath time, sturdy metal ones with chrome or vinyl coated wire for holding bath essentials like soap, sponges, shampoo, razors, and more, and you'll find others designed with book holders, space for wine glasses or cups, candle holders, and more, for those who want a spa at home.

Before selecting a bath caddy, be sure you know your tubs measurements. Nearly all of these caddies have to straddle the width of the tub. If they are too wide, or not wide enough, they won't be usable. Luckily, most of them are adjustable.

The materials strongly influence the durability of these caddies. Plastic will never rust, nor will it scratch your tub. Metal won't crack like plastic and is highly durable, but if the finish is scratched you can find rust forming in a matter of months. Stainless and wood won't rust. Of all the woods, bamboo is best suited to the damp environment of a bathroom.

For most purposes just a large space or two will allow you to store the items you need, but if your bath caddy has a more specific purpose, you will need to look for more specific design features such as a book support, a glass holder, and so forth.
