Celebrity Tots: High End Luxury Furniture for Babies and Kids
Even if I saved every penny I earned for the rest of my life, I still wouldn't be able to afford most of the baby and children's furniture shown here. But it's fun to dream, and dreaming is what I do best, so I like to imagine a world where my future children have the best of the best, the cream of the crop, and I will live in that would-be world vicariously through this hub.
A few years ago my girlfriend was lucky enough to come across a brand new changing table made by Posh Tots, a company that specializes in luxury children's furniture. The warehouse she was working for at the time routinely had stock that was getting left behind. Oftentimes, a customer canceled her order while the product was in transit, and the manufacturer declined to pay the cost to have it shipped back to them. Posh Tots, I suppose, could afford to take the hit, because one day they left behind a gorgeous Velveteen Rabbit inspired dresser/changing table. Retail price? $1,800. Items such as this are custom made especially for the buyer upon making the purchase. And here we had just gotten one for free. Upon close inspection, we learned that it didn't just look good, it was made extremely well--handmade, for that matter, and handpainted, too. It was clear that this gorgeous piece of furniture would withstand the test of time and hold up for generations of use. Unfortunately for us, there were no babies in our lives at the time, and it there would have been an outrageously enormous fee if we wanted to ship it to our neice in Arizona. We begrudgingly sold it on eBay for a fraction of the cost.
Because that is the only experience I have firsthand with high end, luxury children's furniture, Posh Tots is my number one pick. Hailed as "The Most Extraordinary Children's Furnishings in the World!", Posh Tots has been featured in People Magazine, Better Homes and Gardens, InStyle and many more since it's inception in 2000. It's founders believe that a children's room is more than just a place where a child sleeps. It's a wonderland where a child can learn, grow, dream, imagine and believe--and his or her surroundings should reflect those ideals. In 2008, Halle Berry and Gabriel Aubry's newborn baby enjoyed a gift basket that included a pink cashmere baby poncho and Bebe pewter baby spoon. P. Diddy's twins, Jessie and D'Lila, and Jennifer Garner and Ben Affleck's daughter, Violet, reportedly also enjoy Posh Tots furnishings.
If you're looking to furnish an entire nursery, Posh Tots' Designer Rooms section is the place to go for sugar and spice and everything nice. Broken down into categories for Girls, Boys and Either, the Designer Rooms section groups everything together--furniture, wall hangings, and other accessories. Not sure if you're going to be blessed with a little girl or a little boy? Not to worry. Posh Tots also offers room designs that are gender-neutral, such as the contemporary Dancing Dots collection or the more traditional Grand Aspen Escape.
If your budget is limited, all items can be bought separately. Just one important piece, like the "Divine Dressup" Fantasy-Themed bed, can spruce up the entire room. The right accessories can also be key, so don't forget about window treatments, decorative mirrors, growth charts, clocks, photo frames, rugs and wastebaskets.
Of course, no bedroom or playroom is complete without TOYS, and Posh Tots offer dozens! The Always a Princess collection has a revolving bookcase, jewelry cabinet and rocking horse.
Casa Kids designed by Robert Gil, has been in business in Brooklyn, NY since 1992. At first glance, his pieces more closely resemble works of modern art than children's furniture (perhaps that's why he's been featured at the Museum of Modern Art in New York). He only has five full collections: Ola!, Bebe, Loft Beds, Treasure and Tribeca, but he can be commissioned to do a custom design for your little one's abode. Although his Bebe collection is functional, it's his colorful loft beds that are really appealing. Recommended for ages six and up, modular loft beds are used mostly by urban residents who don't have much space and are in need of extra storage for clothes and toys. Rails, ladders and steps can also be included.
Pieces that are the most fun can be found in the Gallery section. The ConnectMe desk with matching ConnectMe cart have plenty of storage space to meet your child's ever-growing needs. Plus, they're ergonomically correct!
BabyBox is the premiere gift site for infants ages newborn to 12 months. In contrast to most online superstores, BabyBox is an upscale boutique that offers only a specialized selection of products from around the world. In addition to furniture and décor, they also carry seasonal infant apparel, toys, blankets, personalized gifts and keepsake books. Most of their furniture errs on the modern side, such as the Oeuf collection with it's simple, clean feel and practical esthetic. They do offer several more traditional, classic, fairy-tale inspired pieces, like the Sweet Beginnings collection designed to evoke quality and beauty for your little one.
BabyBox also features a variety of luxury baby gifts: baby bedding, baby clothes, crib bedding, baby furniture, baby gift baskets, bassinets, baby blankets, baby toys and keepsakes. Their cashmere baby blankets are a great idea for any new addition!
Baby I AM
One of the hottest new, innovative luxury manufacturers is Baby I AM which combines exquisite traditional deisgn with more modern contemporary styles. Something you don't see very much anymore are the classical round bassinets from the Victorian days of old. Baby I AM offers 21 round bassinets and rocking cradles at surprisingly affordable prices. The Cherry Elite oval bassinet with white eyelet bedding is absolutely gorgeous--and it comes with caster wheels for easy transporation from room to room.
But the best part about Baby I AM is their selection of playhouses. I'm 26-years old and I find myself wanting one of these! They offer erfectly pint-sized playhouses ranging from 4'x4' to 10'x18', from Gingerbread Cottage and Grand Portico Mansion to the Little Raskal's, Chapel, and Firehouse Playhouses. Playhouses come with panelized wall sections and prefastened trim, windows with safety glass, grids and screens, flowerboxes, French Doors and a loft with ladder for the turret side of the mansion.
If you're looking for strictly furniture with no website frills like toys and clothes, then Bellini is the place to go. Bellini is another popular name in upscale children's furniture, carrying cribs, armoires, bookcases, changing tables, toy boxes and much more. The Alexander Crib Bed is a great buy that will last a lifetime, as it's designed to transition from a crib to a junior bed to a full-size bed as your child grows (the fixed side rail will later serve as a headboard).
