The Cheap Bathroom Vanity

Updated on August 25, 2009

When remodeling your home, bathroom renovations have the highest rate of return on your home improvement investment dollars. One important item to consider when remodeling is the bathroom vanity unit. Buying a discount bathroom vanity can be one of the best investments you make towards this.

The majority of homeowners that invest in a renovated bathroom will see a return of 80% of the amount of money put into the bathroom renovation. A bathroom remodel will also increase the property value on your home, and can attract more buyers when selling your home.

A bathroom vanity can be one of the most important fixtures in a bathroom, aside from perhaps installing the proper wireless thermostat. Choosing the right bathroom vanity for your needs can seem quite a chore, as there are a wide variety of discount bathroom vanities on the market today. One of the most important things to consider when purchasing a new bathroom vanity is the size of the bathroom. Depending on how much space you have in your bathroom, you may opt for a single or a double vanity.

Another point that should be considered when selecting your bathroom vanity is the use and design you are trying to achieve in your new bathroom. There is always a vanity type on the market that will fit your needs, and there are plenty of cheap bathroom vanities around that are good quality..

Single or Double Bathroom Vanity Unit?

A single bathroom vanity works well for a smaller space. It can hold one sink, either an under hung sink or a vessel sink, and often has ample room underneath to store personal items within reach. Many single vanities also come with a drawer that you can use to store frequently used items, while keeping them within reach.

Single bathroom vanities are made in a wide range of styles, ranging from contemporary to antique, traditional to modern. They are made out of a variety of materials. Woods such as pine and maple are commonly used. Teak and Brazilian cherry can be used too though this makes the vanity more expensive, and it may not be what you want if you're looking into the cheap bathroom vanity unit.

A double bathroom vanity is an excellent choice if you have a slightly larger bathroom. A double bathroom vanity often takes up close to the same space as placing two single vanities together. With a double vanity, you can use either a double sink setup or a single sink setup. Sinks can be under hung or vessel type sinks. Many homeowners choose a double sink with a double vanity when there is more than one person expected to use that particular bathroom. A double bathroom vanity also offers more storage space for personal items and other toiletries. Plumbing fixtures to and from the sink are easily concealed underneath a double bathroom vanity.

As with the single vanity unit, these double bathroom vanities are made in a wide variety of styles out of a wide array of materials.

Over Sized Single Vanities

An over-sized single vanity is also a great option. Many manufacturers are now producing bathroom vanities that are the size of a double bathroom vanity, without the look of a double.

These types of vanities come in different styles and sizes. Depending on the amount of space you have in your bathroom, these over-sized single vanities can add a stylish accent to a remodeled bathroom.

Many over-sized single vanities offer vast storage space for your personal items and toiletries, and have drawers to keep necessary items easily accessible. With this type of vanity, though, you can only use a single sink fixture. These look best with a vessel or bowl sink on placed on top of the vanity.

Plumbing to the sink is stylishly concealed in these larger vanity units Often, they have an antique style, and the antique style of these fixtures greatly complements an old-style bathroom décor.

Wall Mounted Bathroom Vanities

Some bathroom vanities are strictly wall mounted. If you do not require a lot of storage within your bathroom, these wall mounted bathroom vanities may be a great option for your remodeling needs.

Wall mounted bathroom vanities come in various sizes and lengths, making it easy for the homeowner to find a bathroom vanity that fits their needs. Different sink styles can be used with a wall mounted vanity, just as with other vanity units. One thing to be aware of is that the plumbing fixtures will not be concealed if you put in a wall mounted bathroom vanity.

Many of the wall mounted types of bathroom vanity tops are commonly made from tempered glass or different types of stone, such as granite or marble. These type of materials are weighty so ensure that the wall mounted vanity will be hung to standard, so that the vanity does not remove itself from the wall and break. Being made from glass and stone, these vanities are durable but will not hold up under a fall.

I am for Double!! Suppose you and your spouse or siblings fight over the sink space all the time, one good solution would be to get a double bathroom vanity unit. With this, you will no longer have to fuss about queuing up to use the sink. In addition, the extra storage space that a double vanity provides will ensure that all your toiletries are not cluttered on the table top.

Great hub! Many people forget about the cost of decorating when they plan their holiday budget, and unfortunately the cost of decorations can really add up. You have some great ideas in this hub... I love candles, so will definitely implement that tip!

Yes, I like corner vanities too though sometimes they're a bit too small for my liking. Still, it really does depend on available space.

Corner vanities are great for people who have not much space in their bathroom. It seems that bathrooms are getting smaller and smaller with every passing year...
