Cheap and Easy Saftey Latch

Updated on May 30, 2011

Just Passing it on

The kitchen cupboards in our rental house had child safety latches.  The bathroom cabinets did not.  Although there where no harmful things underneath the sinks, my granddaughter found it extremely funny to take out all the toilet paper and various other paper products stored there.

Sitting on the counter

was one of my daughter's hair bands.  You know the ones I am talking about, the thick ones that promise not to tangle up your hair.  Well, I must say the light bulb went on.

So I

took the hair band and hooked it over one knob, twisted it a couple of times and.... Presto chango, I had a child safety latch.  And it works.  Although my granddaughter can open the cupboard, she can not get it open wide enough to get her hand in.  Boy is she upset.
