Smelly Smoke Damage

The odor of stale cigarette smoke lingers in curtains, upholstered furniture, rugs and pillows and even in carpeting. If you’re a smoker or you’re if you’re around a smoker, your clothes may also absorb the smell of smoke, leaving you smelling like an ashtray. Whether you need to get the smoke smell out of your car upholstery, your clothing or your home, a fabric-safe product, like Febreze Fabric Refresher can help.

Fresh Air Odor Elimination

Let the fresh air in. Open the windows and clear the stale air from your car or your home. As the fresh air circulates, stale, smoky air dissipates. But fresh air can only do so much because the smoke odor is already embedded in the fibers of your carpeting, drapery and upholstery.

Spray fabric freshener directly on your curtains, your furniture and on your carpeting to neutralize lingering smoke smells. Febreze Fabric Refresher is safe for even dry-clean-only fabrics so spray it with confidence. Use an even side-to-side motion to cover every inch of fabric.

Tips for Getting Rid of Smoke Smell

Smoke Smell Removal in the Laundry

Launder smoke odors away by washing your garments as usual, but mist each piece of clothing with fabric freshener as you take it from the dryer.

Hang non-washable clothing items, such as wool sweaters and down-filled coats on a line and spray them thoroughly something like Febreze Extra Strength Fabric Refresher to remove heavy smoke odors.

Smelly Smoke Damage in Your Car?

If you purchased a car from someone who smokes, the interior smoky odor can be overwhelming. Heat and humidity can drive smells deeper into the upholstery. Spray car upholstery and floor mats with a fabric air freshener to remove the smell of stale smoke.

Allow fabric air freshener dry on the car’s interior and then close all but one door and turn on the car’s air conditioning system. Stand outside the car and direct a long spray of fabric air freshener inside, then close the door for a few minutes. The air conditioning system will circulate the odor-neutralizing properties throughout the entire vent system, ridding the car of the last vestiges of smoke odor.

True Vrvs. They even stick around in wallpaper and permeate drywall. People who are sensitive to the smoke smell have a tough time airing things out.

Great tip greenhealthguru. I'm going to look for an air freshener with ozone next time I'm at the store.

Actually, ozone is a very powerful in smoke odor removal. An ozone generator will effectively remove all smoke and fire smells from a car or room in hours when releasing concentrated levels of ozone into that area while unoccupied. An air purifier that uses ozone at safe levels (below .05 ppm) will keep a room or a home free of smoke smells even if you live in a home where somebody consistently smokes.
