Composting Toilet For Off-the-Grid, or where a sewer and water line hook up is just not practical.

Updated on June 23, 2015

A no plumbing required toilet. Composting toilet can be used in remote locations including boats.

This just might be the perfect solution for those who are wanting to add a toilet on a boat, in a cabin, or other remote location where running water and sewer hookup is just not practical.

This is a USA made Composting toilet-- but this is not just an ordinary toilet! It is a totally self contained composting toilet using no sewer or water line connections, and best of all it doesn’t stink! Yes no odor as you might expect from a toilet this portable.

The composting toilet called the Nature's Head was developed for on board ship use, where the holding of raw sewage for long trips became difficult to manage.

The Nature’s Head is perfect for remote locations where costly septic systems or connection to a city sewer is impossible. It is also ideal for locations where fresh water is in limited supply.

Use it in locations such as a basement where a normal gravity flow sewer drain is not an option.

The Nature’s head uses a dry composting method to break down the solids and a small liquid holding tank for the urine.

The tanks will need to be emptied but not like an RV holding tank. The urine tank is the one that will need to be emptied the most based on use, while the solids are allowed to compost over time.

Just think of the applications; homesteading, self sufficient non- electric lifestyles, hunting cottages, camp sites, boats, RV’s, campers, disaster relief stations, or even put it in the old out house for a sanitary order free relief station when you’re working in the yard or garden.

The Nature’s head is approved by the US Coast Guard as an onboard toilet. It has been used in remote US military operations. It operates off 12 volts from an auto battery, solar, or has optional 12 volt plug in transformer.

The unit is totally self contained and using 1-1/2 – 2 gallons of peat moss in the base for the composting matter. The unit has a waterless urine separating design. "The Head" has extraordinary holding capacity, which could translate into a month usage by a cruising or traveling couple, or perhaps an entire boating or camping season of weekends.

And yes the composted matter can be used in flower gardens and other non-food crop areas to give the growing season and extra kick from the pants.

The toilet mounts to the floor and utilizes a vent to the outside powered by a 12 volt fan. The fan has low amperage draw so it can run off of a battery and solar power charger, or hooked directly into an RV or boat electrical system.

“The Head” is very compact and space efficient measuring 13” wide at the base, 17-3/4 front to rear, and is just 20” tall.

Although the Nature's Head is widely used in all states and worldwide, just be sure to double check with your local health jurisdiction on the use of a composting toilet.
