Don't buy the Sonoma SGR27LP from Costco

I purchased the Costco Sonoma SGR27LP. I'm usually pleased with the Costco price quality equation and will purchase items from Costco with little research because of the long history of satisfaction I have with Costco products. This one is different.

The problem is the grill has low BTU's for it's size. It's even worse if you convert it to natural gas because natural gas burns at a lower temperature than propane. Then to make matters even worse, there is a 3 inch gap that vents all along the back of the grill. If you are burning propane and preheat the grill for twenty to thirty minutes, you will be hard pressed to get the temperature of the grill over 500 degrees. This make searing tuna or anything else difficult.

The good news is the grill is well made, stainless steel and comes with the full force of the Costco return policy. If you don't like it, take it back. That's why I love Costco so much and will continue to shop there, but I'll do more research on their barbecues before purchasing one there again.

This bbq has totally fallen apart. I'm now searching to find out where to buy replacement parts for the Costco Sonoma.

I agree with Dave, who says to return it. I have had the same model for 2 years, and was just online to find burner replacement parts when I found your commentary. The outside of my grill looks like new, but the burner bar that goes across the back of the grill is rusted out and completely falling apart. I have used the grill a normal amount, and actually, I have had no other problems with it. Still, two years is not long enough for a $500 bbQ to last. No way!!!

So I went through the parts that wore out. The igniters broke, the tray inside had two broken screws that had rusted out and the gas regulator broke.

So, my wife called Costco and they said to bring it back. They gave us store credit and she picked up a new bbq. Have to love Costco. I'm a tad embarrassed to return a two year old BBQ, but I think it should be in better shape than it is.

The burner bar in the rear or the grill rusted out like Mary's. I called Costco and they told me the burners for our Sonoma grills are on back order for 6 months. I told Costco that is unacceptable and I was told to return the grill for a full refund and to my surprise after 2 years and 2 months I got a full refund. I went to Home Depot and got a premiunm stainless Charmglow grill. Chamrglow has been in business for years and I know that HD always has parts is stock.

Was online looking for replacement parts and found this site. I'll be calling Costco tomorrow about taking this grill back. My grill is also brand new on the outside and has been in a covered terrace, the burners shouldn't have fallen apart the way they did. Thank you all for posting here about this.

I am able to have the Sure Heat company replace the burner units..I just had to get Costco to find the proof of purchase from '06. It has a 5 year warranty.

I contacted the Sure Heat company about my burners too. Thet were more than willing to replace my faulty parts. The only problem was that the indicated that I had to pay for shipping. Additionally, the cust. serv rep. never asked for proof of purchase, which I thought was strange.

Our Sonoma BBQ has been covered when not being used and always under cover, it's about 2 years old. We use it a lot during the summer. IT looks brand new on the outside but the burners are rusted and the truth is you can't get it hot enough to sear the meat first. I am very disappointed.

      Do NOT buy Sureheat products:

I bought an $800 Sonoma Altima Grill by Sureheat back in April at Lowes, and although the heating system (ceramic interior) is very good optimizing heat, the paint on the grill begun peeling within 3 months and is now rusting all over. I have contacted Sureheat, sent them pictures, and I am not getting any responses as how to get it fixed/exchanged.

Clearly the paint/primer was defective (poor manufacturing quality), so my advice would be not to get a Sureheat grill. These are good looking grills when new, but for $800 you can get a real high quality grill as opposed to this 1/2 baked product with very poor customer support when it starts coming apart (3-4 months down the road)...

I bought a CGR30 Sonoma Sureheat from Costco. The burners are totally rusted through and just a big ball of flame fills the bbq now. I called Sureheat and the man I spoke to said the burners had a 5 year warranty but I needed to go to Costco to print-out proof of purchase which I did. He also said I'd have to pay $24.99 for shipping. I was happy to find out that I bought the grill in 9/05 (4 yrs and 9 months ago...just within warranty).

I called Sureheat back and this time a lady answered. I told her I bought the grill about 4 years ago. She didn't ask for any proof or purchase and just asked for my shipping address. She said she would send the burner assembly, igniters and some installation screws so I could start over. Shipping was only $14.99. I guess it pays to call them a couple times and try to get the woman customer rep. First call wasn't so-so service, second call was excellent service.

I am very disappointed with my Sonoma BBQ I bought from Costco only 3 years ago and already the burners have rusted out, to a point that I must spend

$99 to replace them. What a waist to throw the entire BBQ

away, and purchase another for only about $150 .

I would never buy another SONOMA BBQ, because of the poor quality of their product

I've been waiting 4 weeks for replacement burner and the readiation plates - I ordered them through Sure Heat and keep getting the run around. They say they shipped them one day, then the next it's "they are shipping today". I asked them to give me the tracking number - they said they would email it to me.... that was 3 days ago - nothing.

Grill is going back to costco and I'm reversing the credit card charges to Sure Heat....

I have the Sonoma SGR27LP and like the others my inards have all rusted out (despite always being covered). This happened to my dads about a year after getting it and he was able to get replacemens from SureHeat for $24.99 shipping. I've waited too long and don't have the receipt so I am online pricing parts. Like the rest of you, disappointed in the quality for such a nice looking, expensive grill - and from Costco who is usually so good.
