Updated on April 25, 2013

The tiles play an important role in designing trendy interiors for the kitchens and the bathrooms. They can be used in combination and also used to separate two distinct areas by colour coding. Tiles can alter the feel of a bathroom with their design and styling.

The regular white tiles are a passé. The market is flooded with amazing tiles in various matte as well as high gloss finishes. Brands like BCT and Laura Ashley have designs that can create a perfect setup for the very traditional, modern as well as the chic and stylish bathrooms. Bathroom tiles have a plethora of designs in delicate and earthy colours. The lace prints, glossy prints and the various textured tiles like the mosaics, pebbles and sand are very popular for furnishing the bathroom walls. The stone, granite and various other muted textured tiles are very much in trend when it comes to flooring the bathroom. The other tiles that can be used to enhance the look of the bathroom are the border tiles and the inset tiles.

Creating a vibrant look:

Varied tiles of different colours but belonging to the same family can be brought together to create a magnificent colourful collage of colours. One of the walls in the bathroom can be highlighted with such a flood of colours to garner attention and evoke wonder and look fun.

Mix-matching:

Two or more types of different tiles can be mix matched to create a required balance or to highlight a particular place on the wall is a great way of tiling. It gives an interesting look to the bathroom. it can be done by using complete contrast or tiles with same patterns but reversed colour combinations.

Colour coding:

Colour coding should be done properly as using the wrong colours can look either shabby or very tacky. Colour coding should be subtle and colours that complement each other should be chosen rather than using stark contrasts.

Themed tiles:

There are tiles with the same base but a select few have a design that fit into your particular theme. Finding such tiles can be a task. If you do not find such accent tiles you can also choose the regular tile and get them customised or printed. For a cheaper solution you can use high quality tattoos on these tiles and create your desired interiors.

Using border tiles:

Border tiles can look extremely traditional and also extremely modern. It depends on how you use them. The images on the right are two examples of border tiles from British Ceramic Tiles giving an old traditional feel and a very modern chic look.
