Top Cuckoo Clocks

Updated on September 20, 2012

Cuckoo clocks makes great gifts to buy for someone special.

Whether it is for someone who is just starting married life, or an extra special Christmas present for Grandma, cuckoo clocks bring delight to all who see them.

Crafted mainly in the Black Forest area of Germany, cuckoo clocks bring a long and interesting history into your home.

The first cuckoo clocks were crafted over 300 years ago by simple farm and woodworkers, to while away the long winter nights when they couldn't work their trades due to severe weather.

These early cuckoo clocks were made entirely of wood, with simple hand-painted faces, but they were amazingly accurate.

Using the same principals, the cuckoo clock gradually became more ornate, resulting finally in the many extremely intricate and attractive cuckoo clocks on the market today.

The very best of them are still hand-crafted in the Black Forest area of Germany.

Thanks Viking. They'd maybe be wanting to kill me come January (take your effin cuckoo noises elsewhere) but the new clocks all have a silencer and/or a night to shut them up!

Quite agree, LeanMan, especially with the modern ones that we can shut off when they get too noisy:)

Yes perhaps we don't want to be reminded of time ebbing away! Personally it's not something I think of when I look at my big face 1.99 clocks on the house. I think a cuckoo clock makes an extra special gift. And Nell, maybe someone special will buy you one :)

As we get older clocks just seem to remind us that time is ebbing away. My clocks are all digital but if I were in the market for a cuckoo clock Izzy I certainly now know where to come.

Good idea to go to someone recommended because I was reading online there is no industry standard for clock repairers, and you could go to one that just does a quick fix and the repair won't last. Your sister-in-law will have a good idea about who is good and who isn't.

You really have me thinking I need to get my cuckoo clock fixed. My sister in-law collects clocks, I'm sure she has a clock repair person that could do the job.
