Updated on October 11, 2014

Fall is here and in full-force…the leaves are changing colors, the weather is getting cooler, and, many television channels are airing copious amounts of programming centered on true tales of hauntings, ghost hunting, and horror of all kinds. This can only mean one thing – Halloween is right around the corner!

Scary good, right? If the thought of the quickly-approaching holiday has you a bit scared, there is no need to fear! Want to wow your guests? Here is an affordably-elegant centerpiece that you can create in a matter of minutes, and it can be assembled for about $5! Whether planning a party, looking for a little décor inspiration to liven up your living space, or perhaps you are planning a Halloween-themed wedding, instead of the familiar DIY, let’s DIWS (Do It With Style)! To create this centerpiece, you will only need five simple items. I used items purchased from my local 99 Cents Only Store, and will list what I used to create this piece; however, you can find similar items at any local craft store. I already own a seam ripper tool, so the remaining four items purchased cost about $5.

What You Will Need:

1) A child-size cape - This was the most expensive item purchased, as the capes cost $1.29. If you choose to go the craft/fabric store route, make sure that your fabric measures at least 12” x 24”, and the material can be easily bunched.

2) 20” Hanging glitter branch (with skeleton hand) - This item comes in other colors, but black was chosen to give the centerpiece more of a Gothic look.

3) 9” Glitter flower stem - This item also comes in a few other colors, but black was chosen to keep the arrangement uniform. If purchasing material at a craft store, you can choose any floral picks or stems to suit your desired color scheme.

Steps:

Step 1: Take hanging glitter branch and place in vase.

Step 2: Add the glitter flower stem to the vase as filler and to complete the arrangement.

Step 3: Remove the child-size cape from packaging. Using the seam ripper tool, remove stitching from the cape ties until the cape ties can be removed completely from the material.

Step 4: Once the cape ties have been removed, use the seam ripper tool to remove the stitching from all remaining seams in the material. Removing the seams will make the material less-bulky and easier to bunch up. When removing the seams and stitching, do not worry if some of the edges get a little frayed, as it will help to add a bit of spookiness to the overall result.

Step 5: Lay the material flat in the center of your table, and place the vase with floral arrangement directly in the center of the material.

Step 6: Once the vase with floral arrangement is in place, bunch the fabric around the vase to your liking.

There you have it, a bewitchingly-beautiful centerpiece to liven any table! Place some candles on the table (just not too near, the cape material is flammable), or around the room for additional spooky effect, and enjoy! The shimmer from the purple cape material and metallic spider web detail will add some bewitching glamour to your décor, while the translucent purple glass vase and black glitter floral arrangement will tie it all in with a creepy, yet subtle elegance.
