Dryer Sheets, A Fresh and Decorative Idea

Updated on August 20, 2017

Freshen the Air

Have you heard about dryer sheets? Well, it is believed that they have many more uses than being place in the dryer. Dryer sheets are of course a great addition to softening our clothes when we are taking care of our laundry. As we already know, when we use them in the dryer, their job is to take away static cling and makes our clothes feel soft. Dryer sheets also are fragrant so they make our clothes smell fresh and clean.

I wanted to capture that fragrance, so one day I put the dryer sheets to the test and placed a stack of them, approximately 10 of them, on the shelf in my bathroom. I went about my daily activities and later I went back in to the bathroom and believe it or not my bathroom smelled as if I had just cleaned it. It smelled so fresh and clean.

It smelled as fresh as clothes do when they come out of the dryer. I decided to leave them on the shelf and see how long the fresh smell would last and actually, the bathroom stayed fresh and clean smelling for days.

This gave me an idea. I thought why not use the dryer sheets as an air freshener.

Decorative Dryer Sheets

Of course leaving dryer sheets out on a sink or counter isn’t very decorative, so I decided to dress them up. So now what was just something you placed in the dryer for freshness for your clothes, had become an air freshener that would add a fresh fragrance to your room.

To get started all you need is some ribbon and dryer sheets, a hot glue gun and scissors. You can also add little rosettes or bows for that finished touch and attach them using the hot glue gun. If you have a mat and rotary cutter that is even better for making perfectly straight cuts, but a scissor will do just fine.

For my little air fresheners I took 10 dryer sheets and cut them in half to make 20 sheets. I then placed them on top of each other. You can use more depending on how high you would like your decorative package.

Next, I measured out 30 inches of ribbon and tied the ribbon around the sheets as if I was wrapping a gift. You can double the ribbon with two different colors if you like.

Lastly, I glued a rosette in the middle of the bow that I tied for a finished look.

Refreshing a room with dryer sheets is easy. And you can even place them in a dresser drawer with your clothes, socks or any other space that you feel may need to be freshened up.

Of course this isn't a replacement for thirty day air fresheners. This idea only lasts about a week or so depending on how many you display. The more you use the longer the fragrance lasts. But it is a great idea for a quick rewarding fragrance.

This creative idea can be replaced at any time as long as you have some ribbon and a box of dryer sheets. Dryer sheets have come a long way since they were first introduced and now they come in different fragrances, like lilac, mango and strawberry.

So if you need to freshen up a room in a flash, put together these little package air fresheners and display them in any room. I think they will be a great discussion piece among friends and family as you freshen up your home.

Thanks GiblinGirl, I have dogs too, and I recently placed one of these fragrance packages on a shelf right above their cages to help keep the area fresh smelling.

Really creative idea. I have a dog and I'm constantly burning candles but there have actually been a few times where I've left the house forgetting to blow them out. This may a good, and safer, alternative to try for freshening a room.
