You heard about the two kinds of pressure cooker - a stove-top and an electric. All you know is the stove top uses a stove and the electric just needs to be plugged in. You just want a piece of equipment that can pressure cook, so will it really matter if it's a stove-top or an electric? Yes, of course it will!

Both of them have specific advantages that the other one could not offer. To know more about these types of pressure cookers, let's look at some pros and cons of each kind.

Stove Top Pressure Cookers

Stove-top pressure cookers have higher psi than an electric pressure cooker. Given this specification, you could say that food will be cooked faster because of a higher pressure that this type of cooker can handle. Most recipes that you see in cookbooks require a high pressure, so with this type, you could cater to the demand of the recipe.

Furthermore, if you have a plan on canning, stove-top pressure cookers are highly recommended. The pressure could be easily regulated and they are flexible enough for needs like this.

Also, stove-top pressure cookers are cheaper. Price is one of the main things that you usually consider in choosing so, if you are afraid to risk an amount of money for a pressure cooker, might as you'll settle for a stove-top. They are also said to be more durable and lasts longer than electric ones.

Stove-tops cookers have disadvantages too. One of which is that you have to check on it from time to time to adjust the heat whenever needed. They also consume a partly large amount of gas to maintain the pressure inside the cooker.

Electric pressure cookers are obviously handier than stove-top ones. They have an electric component that makes the required adjustments in the span of cooking. With this, it's already needless to constantly go back to the kitchen to check the pressure.

Another advantage is that you could plug in this cooker wherever you want. If you don't like the smell that the food emits, you could transfer the cooker anywhere, as long as there is a socket as a source of electricity.

Disadvantages of Electric Cookers

Like stove-tops, electric pressure cookers have disadvantages too. As compared to stove-tops, they have a lower psi, which means the cooking time must be lengthened in order to reach the required psi. They are also a little bit more expensive than stove-tops.

The bells and whistles that are included on this type is usually what make them pricey. And of course, the most obvious disadvantage is that you can't use them without power. More often than not, you won't be able to use them on outside activities.
