Fashion Design Inspires Interior Design

When you think of fashion do you think about models walking down the catwalk displaying the latest fashions of Hollywood designers? I am sure many people do. However for me, I think of interior design. That may sound crazy to some of you, but fashion design leaps off the catwalk or new fall catalog right into the interior design of your home. How? It’s simple, really. Fashion designers are like interior designers for what people wear everyday to work, school or out to the club. What we wear tells a lot about who we are and what we like. The same can be said about how we decorate our homes and workplaces. With that being said, the trends and styles that famous fashion designers come out with often find their way into interior furnishings and finishes in our homes. You could say that fashion is a large contributor to colors, patterns and texture we use when decorating a room. If you look at fashion designs for fall 2011 you will notice trends in colors, as well as, prints and fabrics. What I notice most of all is the colors; vibrant jewel tones that are contrasted with neutral earth tones. Fabrics being used are flowy and layered. From these new clothing ensembles an interior designer could create a beautiful interior design which mimics the fashion designer’s creations. For instance, the interior designer could use the earth tones as the wall colors in a living room and find accessories in the jewel tones to create a well rounded interior design that is not only pleasing to the eye, but is as fashionable as the models on the catwalk.

This was an interesting outlook in bringing fashion and interior design together. Now that I think about it, I can see a good resemblence in my style and also how I decorate. This was a good read. Voted up!
