How to Choose a Food Blender

Updated on February 16, 2013

The most basic food processors on the market are blenders. They are just about the most common kitchen appliance every household seems to have. You can use them to process smoothies, milkshakes and for grinding and mixing anything from coffee beans to breadcrumbs.Though some people just seem to keep them for display, since they make a very nice decoration on your counter top.Makes you look as though you actually cook - even if you do not.

Either way - blenders make a very versatile kitchen appliance. For those of you who have a baby - a blender is a must-have piece of equipment for making your own baby foods, pureeing fruit and later on vegetables and even meats.

If you have a good blender, you can even use it as chopper, meat grinder and even an ice crusher. These are the best selling food blenders in the USA - for good reason - they are all top of their game as far as quality, power and value for money goes.

We will start with my personal favorite, the Blendtec Total blender, so I have an excuse to show one of the "will it blend," series of videos - good bye iPad. :D

This is really a very powerful blender that it can blend just about anything. You can crush ice with it and even grate hard cheese and coconut. It can grind coffee beans, spices and chocolates. You could puree protein drinks, baby foods and make salads and smooth dips with this Black & Decker Blender.

Another great quality of this product is it can hold up to 42 oz of liquid. It is pre asssembled and ready for immedate use. It is also easy to clean since you do not have to disassemble it for cleaning. It is really a very versatile appliance.

Black and Decker are well known for the drill motors - and this is in the same class. For less than $30 - this is a great buy.

HAMILTON Beach 51101B Single-Serve Blender with Travel Lid

This small and inexpensive personal blender is very powerful and easy to use. It might be small but it packs a big punch - despite of its small size, it can even chop frozen fruits. It can blend smoothies perfectly - and in single portions - ready to go as it includes a sippable lid for travel.

It consists of 3 parts: the base, glass and lid and the cord can be wrapped around and tucked making it a very portable blender. However, it is too small for making any large quantities of foods. But it is great for processing baby foods where you will only have to blend small quantity of it. It is really a great blender considering the price, so if you need a blender and are on a tight budget, this is a great choice..

It is looks more than a great counter top item, with its elegant glass-on-black design. It looks and feels very good. And indeed, it can crush ice without shaking.

Another good quality of this product is its simplicity. It is very user friendly - even beginners and those who never frequent the kitchen can use it. Even cleaning is easy. Just use hot water and add some liquid dishwasher and blend it to clean. There is no need for dismantling or removing the glass from its motor for cleaning. However, some reviews say it is noisy, but that is what every blender is - Loud. Never found one that wasn't, but let me know if you find something that can crush ice quietly.

If you want a very impressive looking blender that will chop vegetables into nothingness, this is the one for you. Now - I am not suggesting that you hide your kid's veggies in other food, but, well..... make your own mind up.

Seriously - this thing is astounding. Hands down the most powerful blender I have owned. It is great for pureeing vegetables - even garlic and chick peas to make your own hummus. I lov eit and can heartily recommend this.

Apart from the ability to grind just about anything, and look good doing so - the ease with which it cleans is worth the extra money over the other models. Go - buy one now before they run our. Seriously - what are you waiting for?

Cuisinart CSB-76 Smart Stick Hand Blender

If you want a hand blender, this is item is for you. It is an immersion hand blender that has a 200-watt motor power. You can use it for blending small amounts of liquid right in the serving glass. It has a protective guard that prevents splatters and spillages.

It has a simple push button control and is very light weight for one hand blending. It is also dishwasher safe, with a stainless steel blending shaft. You can blend soup and smoothies, or froth hot milk for coffee drinks.

Cuisinart make good products and this is no exception. However, because of its size and smaller blade, it can only blend smaller quantities of lighter food and liquids. This hasn’t been designed to crush pieces of ice.
