Updated on November 9, 2010

Using kitchen floor mats makes good sense. They keep dirt and debris to a minimum, the bigger ones offer comfort underfoot and they can alter the look of a floorspace - more so if you buy one that blends with the surround décor.

They're great in the kitchen, the bathroom and hallway and some are made specifically for the area in and around a dooorway. They come in a variety of styles, shapes, sizes and colors, from rubber floor mats to kitchen mats, there's a mat to suit all homes.

You can set a budget and find some good quality low priced ,mats or you can opt to spend a little more and spend the kind of money  that gets you a top quality mat. They're especially good placed near a kitchen sink as they're good to stand on and will prevent water spillages from hitting the floor.

The gel is a shock absorbing type and it really does reduce aches and pains. It measures 20 x 36", which makes it big enough to stand on when working, and the external covering is a composite leather basket weave design.

The underside is non-slip and anti-microbial - great for keeping unwanted germs to a minimum, as well as a good preventative against mold and mildew. This is a lot of floor matting for the price and worth every cent.

Thanks so much for your very informative descriptions. I need some mats for my mom for her birthday this month, and, unfortunately, none of these seem to fit the bill. I need something inexpensive, will not slide all over the linoleum, and will catch dirt and pet hair. Any suggestions?

When I read the title of your hub I cringed a little, but I was pleasantly surprised with what you wrote and the types of mats you highlighted.

The reason I why I cringed is I was expecting to read about rugs that were about colour and texture more so than being beneficial. Thanks for writing about mats that are good for standing and working and not just looking good.
