Five Best Kitchen Stools

Updated on November 5, 2010

Wouldn't it be great to have a good set of stools in your kitchen?

Half of the people who work long hours in the kitchen want to have a good sturdy stool to sit on for some chores. For beginners, they usually want something like an ordinary chair, but for an expert, they will almost always prefer a sturdy stool.

Stools are actually great kitchen furniture. Cooks find them better, more comfortable and convenient than ordinary kitchen chairs because it raises their height up to the level of the work surface. Though sitting, you really don't feel "seated" or short. You can still do the mixing and any number of other tasks while sat on a good stool. A stool does not limit your movements so you can turn here and there, reach for the spices or whatever.  Some of them do not have a back rest to hinder your back's range of movements allowing even further range of movement.

This is a great all-purpose stool. You can use it wherever you wish - in your kitchen or in your garage. They are available in either 24 or 30 inches in height and available in either white or a natural finish.

You can be “taller” when seated on these stools when you are working at your kitchen counter or kitchen island. They have a very comfortable foot rest and are great quality for the price. Not really the most comfortable since it has no cushions, but for a wooden stool, it is great and very sturdy considering the low price.

Not going to last forever, but at less than $36 the pair - extremely good value for money.

If you want something stylish and at the same time a high usability this is the stool. It has a stylish chrome finish with padded vinyl seat and back, and a step stool that slides in and out easily.

The look may not be to everyone's taste, but there is no denying the functionality. It is perfect when you want to reach for something from a high cupboard. The tracking of the in-out step stool is also smooth thanks to the high build quality.

This really makes a great kitchen stool in the kitchen. If you have kids that like to help you out in the kitchen, but they are too little to reach the counter, this stool is perfect.  There are a lot of plastic parts that might not last fa long time, but overall this stool is worth it.

This set of 2 contemporary stools is really great for bars and breakfast nooks. This Winsome bar stool has an airlift design with an adjustable seat height which goes from  30 inches down to 25.

But these adjustable stools are not just for bars or breakfast counters, they are also perfect for a kitchen. They are sturdy and are not bulky so you can fit them under or behind the counter quite easily. The padding is not the most comfortable, but better than those hard wooden stools.

Having said that - once again - these are extremely inexpensive and Amazon sell them at less than $70 a pair.

You might want a stool that you can use as a step. this is a great choice. Round stools are not really safe when you want to get something from a high cupboard and this is a far safer option.

It has a vinyl upholstered cushioned seat that is very easy to clean. All you have to do is wipe and it’s done. Although the color is white (something that you should not usually buy for a busy kitchen) it is actually so easy to clean, that needs no consideration. It is a little heavy, so I doubt your 5 year old would be able to drag it around the kitchen. However, that is actually a plus factor since you want the weight to hold you secure when you are stood on it. All in all, this is really a great step stool from Cosco.

Winsome Saddle Seat 24-Inch Counter Stool, Walnut

If you want something simple yet multipurpose, this saddle seat stool does better job than its price might suggest. This is made up of solid beechwood in a black or walnut finish. It has a wide contoured top that looks like saddle with square sturdy legs.

It doesn’t look cheap and feels solid. The only problem is the feet. They don’t have soles or rubbers on them. this could scratch wooden floors. Therefore, if you have dark colored or wooden floors,  consider getting rubber feet. Nevertheless - this is a great product for its price. It is sturdy and very versatile, and I think that makes it a good buy at $24.
