Helping Becky Cope With Boredom
August 24, 2014
Our daughter Becky becomes bored easily. The hot August weather presents constant indoor days in order to avoid the outdoor heat. We have a good car, but it needs some minor repairs. Soon I will have to be bringing it to our mechanic to take care of matters, but it is essential to save money , for all kinds of extra expenses.
If family members become bored it is wise to seek enjoyable tasks, or hobbies, and interesting things to do. Today I must find something to do that Becky, and I can enjoy. Becky can only use her left arm, and hand so I must find something constructive she can enjoy doing as well as helpful, useful, and intelligible to do. Becky likes to create watercolor art. We have the supplies. We bought a table top easel , various colored paints, and her own carrying case with art tools. It is necessary , for either Joann, or I too hold her steady so she can paint with her left hand. We help her to maintain her balance.
Becky is very expressive in her abstract art. Soon I will be preparing , for projects , and hopefully they will be time consuming.
A very important matter to consider when seeking things to do are to find suitable cost effective projects. If you like to draw, buy a large cord of typing paper. Most of it is acid free. Acid free paper means that it will not get yellow over time. Good paper is usually acid free. It can be easily purchased at affordable prices in places like office supply stores. The best drawing pens I like are "Sharpies." They cost a slight bit more, but they last a long time. Purchase them in fine, and medium types.
If you like to save drawings ,then buy sheet covers by a box of fifty to a hundred sheets.. Economical binders can hold hundreds of drawings, and art. And if you ever decide to sell any o art, always remember that original art, and drawings demand higher prices. Selling reproductions are a good idea. They can be sold cheaper, and you can keep the originals in order to create more copies. Art buyers may prefer to buy original art, but it is difficult to create originals of the same kind. You can have fun drawing, and marketing you're art, but it can be a very slow money making project.
It is also important to change you're surroundings. Looking at the same four walls day in, and day out is not good. Take walks, or push a wheelchair with someone dear to you, all around in different places. Go to a city park, or go out, and play bingo. Sit in a hamburger place, or enjoy going to church, visit a department store. Watch a movie in a theatre. Sit under a tree, and have a picnic, or trim hedges. Start a garden project. Bake a cake, make smoothies, and have you're helper pass you recipe, or preparation supplies.
Watch good movies that everyone can enjoy. Find dresser drawers filled with stuff, and throw away things you no longer need. Becky helps us sort out things we do not need.
All it takes is, and imagination, and a willingness to use it.
God Bless Everyone.
