Home Espresso Machine

Updated on February 10, 2013

A home espresso machine is a smart purchase.  It is a great appliance to have around the house.  You can save money by making your daily espresso, but it is also very handy when you are entertaining.  It would ad a very nice finishing touch to the end of a perfect meal.

Getting a home espresso machine gives you the freedom to experiment that you don’t get to do with a coffee shop.  At most coffee shops you don’t get to select the type of roast of flavor of the coffee bean.  But if you have your own machine you open yourself up to a world of flavors and possibilities.

If you are the type of person who is time starved and finds it easier to pop into a coffee shop but would love to save money you may want to buy a family automatic espresso machine.  These machines will grind the beans and brew the espresso for you.  This will solve your daily fix for espresso and also help you save money in the long run.

There are different types of espresso machines. There are machines that use fresh ground beans, and others that use capsules or pods. Each has their advantages and disadvantages. If this is your first time using a home espresso machine, it is recommended to stay away from the machine with all of the bells and whistles. Buy yourself a conventional model that that has a porta filter and a steam wand. A porta filter attaches to the group head of the espresso machine and carries a tampered puck of coffee grounds within its basket. It forms a seal with the espresso machine’s gasket and directs high pressure hot water through the coffee puck. The steam wand ejects steam that would froth the milk. These tend to be easier to use work with.

Some of the more popular manufacturers of espresso machines are DeLonghi, Krups, Saeco and Cuisinart. When looking for an espresso machine evaluate the machine based on their ratings for taste, convenience and froth.
