Updated on May 9, 2012

Sometimes, one just marvels at the iPhone and the millions of apps that really make it what it is. Had apple apps not been so successful, the iPhone would have way more competition.

HomeSnap is amazing. You need it especially if you are house hunting and roaming around in an area you are considering. You find a house you like, even if not for sale, So, you take a pic of the house with the iPhone. Within 60 seconds, you will know:

  • Estimated cost of home
  • Square footage
  • Number of rooms
  • Similar homes in the area like it
  • Interior photos
  • Bid history (if house is for sale)
  • Agent listing and their contact data

HomeSnap also allows you to use snapshots taken by others and sent to you to obtain the same information. The App works by using the iPhone's GPS system and obtains the house data from the "cloud" above. If the house is not for sale, data is obtained form public information systems, such as, tax records, census, recorder. The application also provides area or neighborhood stats and details about schools, crime, home sales in the area, appreciation. HomeSnap's property database includes active listings (and recent sales) in Baltimore, the Bay Area, Boston, Chicago, Dallas/Ft. Worth, Houston, the Inland Empire, Los Angeles, Philadelphia, Phoenix, Providence, San Diego and the Washington DC Metro. Coming soon is Austin, San Antonio, Seattle and Portland.
