How Can You Refurbish Your Bath Tubs for a Brand New Look and Appeal?

Updated on April 26, 2013

An Old Bath Tub

A stained bath tub or the one that is very old fashion and doesn’t match with the bathroom interiors is a major turn off. You would never like to set your foot in it, let alone enjoy a soak or feel the luxury. If you think of buying a new bath, it costs a fortune and most of us don’t have the resources for a brand new bath and it is very foolish and impractical to buy a new bath just because it has scratches or looks pale.

We had an old cast iron bath and everyone in the house detested it. Nobody actually wanted it and the bathroom that had the bath was practically not being used. It was a major eyesore as it had the enamel peeling off at places and looked quite old and haggard. Tried selling it off, but it did not amount to so much that I could add a few bucks and buy a new one.

Renovating an old bath tub

So pretty determined to do something about it I looked up the net for a list of people around my place who did refurbishing. I found out a place and called them up for doing up the bath. I chose a pretty pink colour on the outer and got the inside white colour resurfaced. The colour was the best suited in the bathroom and the tub looked awesome. No one would ever think of selling it away as junk.

A shower bath looks fabulous and saves a lot of space

Personally I would have loved them to weld a frame with rails for handing a curtain and also planned to add a shower, but again, I needed to keep the budget in check. This way we had a brand new bath at not even half the price of a new bath. Once it was installed in the bathroom now that bathroom is the most used. And I am surely going to add a shower to it whenever I have enough to spend on it.

There are also many resurfacing kits available in the market for touching up and scratch removal on the bathtubs. Believe me a bit of retouching makes the bath sparkle again it makes a huge difference the way your bathroom looks. If you have a standard bath with panels around it there are also Bath Panels available in the market. You can even find them on various online bathroom retail sites. A bit of touching inside, taping the edges and new panel on the sides will make it look gorgeous and new.

There are also various DIY resurfacing kits available that can give a desired result.

I loved your approach to re-glazing an old tub! The images are just beautiful of the after project rewards. People just don't realize how difficult it really is to get an old tub out of the bathroom to bring in a new is one BIG pain! Refurbishing the tub is just a smart idea. Nice job here! :)

Hey chatkath thank you so much! I love the cast iron baths!! Though there are very trendy ones in the market but nothing can match the versatility of the cast iron 1nce. And they can be refurbished easily :))

I always thought it would be fun to refurbish one of those old footed tubs. Your pictures make me want to try it! I really like the idea of the brass shower rod installed in it -- that gives it a very updated look.
