You work full time, drive the kids to their activities and cook dinner every day. After all that, you’d love to relax, but now you have to clean the house. If house cleaning is taking up too much of your free time, it may behoove you to consider hiring a house cleaning company.

There are many house cleaning companies in the market and more are cropping up every day. Finding the right one can seem like a daunting task. When choosing a house cleaning company, there are certain steps you want to take to ensure you hire the company that fits your needs and budget best.

5 Helpful Tips

  1. Decide exactly what you want them to clean. Write down what you expect of them so when you are quoted a price, there are no suprises. Some companies may charge a little extra for the first cleaning as it is usually more work than the weekly upkeep.
  2. Ask for a free quote. This should not be a problem. Any company that doesn’t want to quote you a price first is a company to avoid. The price will be determined by certain criteria such as how in-depth the cleaning is, how many rooms you have and the size of the rooms.
  3. Make sure the employees are insured and bonded. This means that if something breaks or is stolen, you are covered and they will replace it. It also means that if something happens to one of the employees, you are not held liable.
  4. Ask questions about the employees. Ask if they did background checks and what information they collected. Have them confirm that all are legal residents of the United States. You are opening your home to strangers, most likely when you are not there, so know who you’re giving a key to.
  5. Put away any sensitive information or valuables you may have laying about the house; bills, mail, legal papers, money, etc. Trusting your cleaning company is great, but don’t tempt fate by leaving these things out in the open.

Make a schedule of cleaning duties ahead of time. Let them know what you want done weekly, biweekly and monthly so they can quote you the proper prices. It’s not fair to them to have you surprise them with a list of extra jobs. Most companies have certain chores that are included in their cleaning. A typical package might include cleaning and sanitizing bathrooms and kitchens, vacuuming, dusting, washing floors, doing dishes or stacking a dishwasher and even changing bed linens. Then there are extra chores you may want done periodically such as windows, laundry, cleaning light fixtures or chandelliers, polishing woodwork or carpet cleaning.
