How to Create That Perfect Beach House Style

Updated on October 30, 2015

Beach Home Decor Ideas

Not all of us may be lucky enough to have our own little slice of paradise on the beach, but fortunately any home can be decorated that way.

1) Creating Comfort

An essential part of decorating a beach getaway, is making it comfortable and realistic. Chances are if you have a beach home, you are going to have plenty of visitors from all over the spectrum, including rambunctious children, elderly grandparents, rowdy long lost cousins, and even some fur babies. Cozy couches, plenty of seating, and tables that can survive without coasters will be essentials. The last thing you want to do while trying to entertain and enjoy your home, is to stress about cleaning up after your guests.

Some of the best ways to do this will be to scour antique shops and flea markets for the perfect piece that will fit the lifestyle of your beach home. While you may want to go all out on a luxuriously comfortable bed or couch. Things like t.v. stands, coffee tables, and art can all be vintage or recycled pieces that reflect you and your family.

Dont get so caught up in decor that you cannot enjoy your beautiful home.

2) Make it your own

Making your beach home reflect you and your family is also an important piece of the puzzle when creating your cozy beach atmosphere.

Using shells gathered together on the beach, photos of your family around the fire, pops of bright colors, or highlighting a nautical theme is what makes a home memorable. It creates warmth and makes it a place that you can't wait to return.

In your beach home all bets are off, if you want to paint the cupboards but are normally afraid... go for it if that’s your style. This blue kitchen not only sends vibes of peacefulness to its guests, but creates a quiet coziness.

Displaying beach glass, shells, coral and shark teeth not only adds to the decor but invites warm memories.

3) Storage

Unless you have a sizable amount of money in your bank account, your home by the sea is not going to be a manor. Lots of storage options and making the most of small spaces will be key in making your beach home feel comfortable, livable, and organized.

Baskets, cubbies, and hooks create storage and keeps things out of the way after a day at the beach.

4) Outdoor Spaces

With a beach side cottage, the outdoor area is as important as the indoor. It is essential to bring the indoors outside, and make your outdoor space as comfy as what is in your living room. Chances are, this will be the area that your company will migrate to the most. In a place where sand meets sun, and the water is your back drop, this should be the focal point of your home.
