Shoe Storage in Small Spaces

Anan is an online blogger and private consultant since 2009 in the areas of relationships and interfaith spirituality.

For those of us that have limited space, is important to come up with creative ideas to store our belongings. One of the most neglected items in our closet are our shoes.

Most people store their shoes according to the level of usage. For example, dress shoes go in the original boxes and athletic footwear on the floor of the closet.

Others purchase storage units like racks, shoe holders and shelving units. For those in a tight budget, with a knack for re purposing, is easy to find fun storage ideas to store away our shoes.

Do you have a special unique way of displaying your shoes?

Under the bed storage

Never underestimate the space under the bed. A rolling cart is great for those that have a lot of casual footwear, like tennis shoes and flats. You could buy it or have fun making your own with a spare rack or wooden sheet and some furniture wheels. This can also be a great place to store kids shoes. Since they are small and easily reached by the little ones. Of course the use of pockets along side the bed is perfect to see what you have hidden underneath the bed.

Bench with stoarge

Have a seat, take a load off and put away your shoes.A bench is perfect for this.

Wall board

This is for those that want to integrate their shoe collection as d├ęcor. Is not as uncommon as you may think. This also serves two purposes, accessibility and original wall decoration for a wall.

Good old top of the closet storage

Make use of those boxes. Take some pictures with your cell phone and paste them in the front,so that you know where your favorites shoes are all the time.

Corner ladder

I love this one. It has a different perspective on how to display shoes. If you are proud of your stilettos show them off!

Re purposing existing furniture

This is another one of my favorites. Most people have an existing piece of furniture that no longer serves for what it used to.Think outside of the box, and have fun making it your shoes new home. A cabinet or bookcase are great examples for organizing footwear.

Don't limit your imagination

If you have the will ,you will find a way to store your beloved shoes properly and have fun in the process. While saving money and space.

Awesome ways to keep and enjoy your shoe storage!

ananceleste, this is so great! Just the other week I found a (purchased) solution for storing my shoes on the inside of my closet door using one of those pocket organizers--it holds 30 pairs of shoes (more than I own)! But now I wish I'd read your article first. For example, I'm definitely going to take photos of my shoes and post them on the outsides of each shoe pocket--I can never get ready to leave the house fast enough, I'm always looking for ways to expedite that silly process. Photos of the shoes are just the thing I need! Taking it a step further, I'll photograph and paste picture labels of the stuff in boxes on my top closet shelves and be that much closer to being organized. And, I'll take photos of which fancy/keepsake dress is in which hanging garment bag! So many possibilities you've inspired in me. Great hub! Voting up, sharing, etc. (I'm off to see what else you've written...)

      Hi teaches!

I remember my mother having over 100 pairs of shoes, beautiful ones at that. She even had a special closet just for them. Is a girl thing. Thanks for commenting my friend.

I like the wall rack and the cabinet best. Very creative yet a touch of style! I have too many shoes, so says my hubby, and do need to do something about their storage. Thanks for the ideas.

Some great ideas here. We love to have a variety of shoes for different occasions, but where to keep them can be a problem - which you have solved very neatly.

Useful Hub, Anan. I loved the some of the out-of -the -box ideas like the corner ladder and under the bed cart. Both these ideas are practical and yet funky and easy maintenance. Voted up and sharing.
