Cockroaches

Cockroaches are a common pest in kitchens and continue to thrive during winter months. Cockroaches have been around for millions of years and survived the most traumatic natural disasters. Cockroaches are extremely resilient and can be very difficult to eliminate. Cockroach infestations are a common problem that often is not dealt with correctly. But there are a few simple things that you can do to prevent and to help eliminate an existing cockroach problem in your home or in your business.

Eliminate Cockroach Hiding Places

Cockroaches need dark places to hide. They thrive when there are plenty of cracks and crevices for a large population to hide in. Sealing up all cracks around and inside of cabinets can go a long way in controlling a cockroach population.

Eliminate Cockroach Food Sources

Cockroaches thrive in dirty environments because there is so much food to eat. The population of a cockroach infestation will grow to the level of food, water, and shelter available. Eliminate the food source and you will control the size of the population. Keep your kitchen clean. Don't leave crumbs on counters, wipe counters, prevent grease buildup, and deep clean under stoves, cabinets, and behind fridges. Keep your garbage covered and take it out frequently. Sweep up crumbs and be cleaner than you have ever been. Remember, every crumb left out could potentially be food for a growing cockroach population.

Eliminate Water Sources

Cockroaches cannot survive long without moisture. Eliminate all sources of moisture and you will control the cockroach population. Be sure your sink does not leak and do not leave dishes in the sink that can collect water.

Cockroaches Require Persistance

It is almost impossible to completely eliminate a cockroach problem with chemicals. All cockroach treatment programs must be centered on controlling the environment. Cockroach populations are best controlled by reducing harborage (cracks and hiding places), moisture, and food.
