How to make your bedroom beautiful and unique

Updated on July 26, 2013

Your relaxing domain.

Bedroom is a place to relax and unwind. The arrangements of the furniture in a bedroom should be such that it does not jar your eyes and it should also present a picture of neatness and coziness. A messy bedroom, with the bedding undone, wet towels and clothes strewn on the bed can make your nerves frayed and edgy. On the other hand if your bedroom is neat and beautiful, you will feel your tiredness vanishing and a sense of peace seep into you.

You need not spend too much money to make your bedroom beautiful. You can beautify your bedroom within your budget and all you need is imagination and interest. Your bed will be the focal point in your bedroom; and so you should select your bed according to the size of your room. If your bedroom is large, then a king size bed will be suitable. If your bedroom is not big enough, go in for a medium size bed.

Bed covers add attraction to your room and so complement your bedroom by selecting good bed sheets with unique designs. Look for bright colors as it will liven up your room. The color of your curtains should sync with the color of your wall. The material of your curtains should not be too thick as it would prevent sunlight penetrating inside and thus make your room appear gloomy. Light and transparent materials let sunlight peep inside your room to make it look bright.

A beautiful photo frame will add attraction to your bedroom. Family photos give a personal touch. Though wall papers have gone out of fashion, my fascination with them still remains. If your inclination is towards it, you can choose a wall paper which will go well with the decor of your bedroom. If the color of your bedroom is very bright, then a wall paper will look jarring. Wall papers go well with soft pastel colors.

The light fittings in your room should be classic and unique. A side table next to the bed can be useful as you can keep your books and magazines in it. If your bedroom is very large, a side table on either side of the bed will look good. If your bedroom is small, then a single side table will do. Select the design of the side table to sync with the design of your bed. A beautiful night lamp and an alarm clock over it make it look eye-catching.

Wardrobes should also be selected according to the furnishings in the room. If you have a built in wardrobe, it will not cramp your room. If you do not have one, then buy a wardrobe which will go with the design of the bed. There are modular bedroom sets which include a bed, a wardrobe and a dressing table having uniformity in design and so make your bedroom look beautiful. Interior plants and a beautiful flower vase with bright flowers will complete the picture of your bedroom.

It is not enough if you select good furniture for your bedroom. You should keep your room clean and dust free. Do your bedding as soon as you get up. Wash your curtains once a week. You can change you bed covers daily, but if you find it difficult change it twice a week at least. Wipe clean your dressing table mirror daily to remove any grime and dirt.

Clean the floor with a disinfectant and wipe the door knob clean. There should be no cobwebs hanging around your bedroom. An air freshener will give a clean and fragrant smell to your bedroom. It is your unwinding room and so you should be able to give it an exclusive look so that you feel calm to be there.

Excellent suggestions and interesting Hub. I recently read an article where wallpaper is fast making a "comeback" and as I, too, am an admirer of wallpaper perhaps we'll see it become fashionable once again. Best/Sis

I have never thought of my bedroom as my "unwinding" room, but you are right! It is the place where I want to feel comfortable so that I can rest peacefully. Thanks for the ideas!
