Every year we fall victim to the gift of one or on some occasions, several unwanted coffee mugs. Whether it's a Christmas, birthday or housewarming gift, it adds to the problem of where to put them and how to put them to good use. You can use a rotation system in order to use them all equally for your hot beverages, however I personally tend to use my favourite one all the time.

You could always try to sell them on Ebay or on other websites but it's a lot easier to find clever uses for them around the house. Below we have a look at some ideas which put these unwanted coffee mugs to good use.

You may also view the video and share some of your coffee mug ideas in the comments section below.

The Kitchen Area

The kitchen is a great place to start looking for places to tastefully decorate with your unwanted mugs. A mug can be used to place your cooking utensils by your stove to give you quick and easy access.

Another great idea is the use of a mug as a spoon rest while cooking, to avoid making a mess on the bench or stove.

In my household, a previously unused and unwanted coffee mug makes a useful drinking straw holder, as can be seen in the above photos

Pot Plants

A nice looking coffee mug can compliment a shelf or window ledge with a beautiful plant, flower or cactus inside. This creative idea will make a great impression as pot plants don't usually come in various colours and designs.

The Loose Change Mug

You can use your unused mug as a place to keep your loose change. If you're always looking for change and struggle to find some, by keeping your coins in a designated mug, you will always know where to look.

The Bathroom

A carefully chosen mug to place your toothbrushes in, can transform the look and feel of your bathroom. The above photos show you a great example.

The Office Desk

Keeping your office desk tidy can sometimes be quite a task, especially if your looking around for your stationary or a pen. A mug to keep all your pens and stationary in, is the ideal way to help keep things in order.

Although these are just a few useful examples of ways to use your unused coffee mugs, you can always find more just by looking around your house and trying different places.

It definitely is a problem when you realise that you have too many mugs, but you appreciate when you see them being put to good use!

Great timing to come across this piece. I've gotsome new mugs and was running out of room in the cupboard. I was battling with what to do with the overflow, and now you've opened up some new ideas. I especially like the planter idea.

This is so true, an unwanted coffee mug can be used for the different, creative ways you showed in this hub. Great hub. Voted up.
