Importance of Servicing Lawn Mower
Big Yards Need Serviced Mowers
We have our lawn mower serviced annually. Each year in the fall, we call M.D.S. Sharp-N-Lube to bring his mobile unit directly to our house. This year I asked Mark, “Does it really matter if we do this each year?” Mark replied, “Annual servicing helps extend the life of the mower.” By cleaning, sharpening and changing the oil each fall, we are able to make sure that when we get ready to mow in the spring; our mower will be ready as well.

Lawn Mower Maintenance
Annually Change Air Filter, Spark Plug and Oil
Mark said that you can honestly go for a year or so and do nothing to your mower. As the filter and spark plug get older and dirty, they can cause the oil to be used at a faster rate. When your mower is using oil inefficiently, what can sneak up on you (and the mower) is the amount of oil in the mower. If you run out of oil, you could simply think your mower is no longer starting. What has happened instead is that the pistons are locked.
The oil provides lubrication for the pistons and this lubrication no longer exists. Mark has found that there are a few instances that by having the mower serviced immediately after this ‘lock up point’, the mower was able to be restored to its functioning condition. However, he has had a few clients that repeatedly ran the mower to a lock up point. He said that the pistons were permanently frozen and the mower was no longer able to be used.
What his clients saved in not having the mower annually serviced they spent in a mower replacement.

Lawn Mower Servicing Success Stories
We have been having our lawn mower serviced for ten years. My husband could do some of the things himself, but I am not sure he has the equipment to properly balance or sharpen the blades. Each year after our mower is serviced; Mark assures us that we are set for the next season and that our mowers are in great condition.
Mark has been servicing lawn mowers for twenty years. He smiles recalling two faithful clients who he began servicing their mowers with him eighteen years ago. Today both families still use the same mowers and they are functioning great. He laughs recalling a couple families that only use him for emergencies instead of the regular maintenance. He said they are not on the first mowers.

New House, Big Yard, Riding Mower
We just purchased a new house on three acres and it included the riding lawn mower. We had an estimate to have our lawn cut by a professional. One estimate was $45 for a weekly cutting of the main yard and an additional $80 to have our back yard cut every two weeks.
This inspired my husband to use our riding lawn mower. While it ran fine, it cut the lawn uneven. We figured it just needed to be leveled.
When Mark serviced the mower, he discovered that in addition to needing to balance the mower deck, one of the two blades was on upside down.
Makes me glad Mark was servicing our mower and not whoever serviced it last time!
Mark has given our push and riding lawn mowers a clean bill of health.
