Nautical Coasters, Tiles and Trivets for Sailors, Cruisers and Boaters

Nautical home d├ęcor is very popular, but you don't have to remodel - just add a few special little touches with coasters, tiles, and trivets. Whether you live right on the coast, or way on inland, decorator touches with marine themes, like anchors, sea shells, and other items are always tasteful.

Ceramic tiles are attractive, and versatile, too. They can be used as spoon rests. With little felt 'feet' affixed to the underside, they make nice drink holders. They also make eyecatching accents when set into a counter top or bathroom wall.

A set of coasters or a trivet makes an appreciated hostess or thank you gift, too.

Here, then, is a collection of nautical coasters, tiles, and trivets that should bring a smile to your face.

Anything with a sea-going theme is a recommended gift for a cruisers, boater, sailor, or anyone who loves ships and the sea.

Drink Coasters vs. Beer Mats

What is the Difference?

Coasters today are typically made in whole, or in part of cork, wood, or sandstone or lined on the bottom with cork. Their purpose is to prevent damage to the tabletop from the moisture or heat from the glass or mug.

Beer mats, on the other hand, tend to be made of rubber, and are used under beer bottles, or steins of beer. At one time, they were typically made made of layers of paper fiber, and many still are. Beer mats commonly have advertising imprinted on them.

In common usage, however, many people make little distinction between the two.

Titanic 1st Class Passengers

Anything related the ill-fated Titanic is sought after by a certain segment of the population, and is always a nice addition to a nautical collection..

This Set of six coasters depicting first class passengers on the RMS Titanic. They are enjoying a drink in style. It looks like they may be in the ship's Veranda Cafe, which was on Deck A, Aft.

The image comes from a vintage lantern box slide. (Lantern slide boxes were early forerunners of the slide projector, which is, itself, now almost extinct.)

Zazzle's cork coasters come in a set of six. The front is high gloss plastic, and the backing is cork.

Size of individual coasters: 3.8" square

This particular set would make a nice gift for someone who loves 'all things Titanic.'

Tiles and Trivets

More in Maritime Themes - from Amazon

Here are some nice nautical themes in decorator tile products from Amazon. Lighthouses and anchors are real favorites. Other themes to look for include boats, both large and small, captain's wheels, compasses, sea creatures, ocean waves, and coastal scenes.

Themes from the Sea on Tiles or Trivets

Tiles and trivets have several uses. Used as art or decorator touches, they can be framed and hung; they are inlaid into the tops of wooden boxes and even tables, and also used as hot pads and kitchen spoon rests.

Maritime themed trivets with ships and scenes from the sea make wonderful little decorator touches throughout the house. Coastal scenes are extremely popular, too.

They also make excellent thank you or hostess gifts.

I have a favorite tile, that's the color of the Caribbean Sea, by my bedside for my nighttime glass of water. I've placed little round felt 'feet' on it it (like miniatures of the felt pads used on some furniture legs) to protect the nightstand surface.

Do you have any nautical themed decorator touches in your home?

I don't have any sea themed décor items in my home except for a few sea shells. As such, the nautical coasters may be one simple addition that I can make.

These niche strikes me as unusual somehow., maybe because I am not the Suzy Homemaker type. But you have really got a beautiful group of products here: pinned to my Home Beautification board (I have a board, even if I never seem to get around to doing it) and digged. I live in the Bay area, I should use more of a nautical décor.

Love this stuff! Living in Florida, I decorated my former house in this theme. Now, I rescued a few of the decorative nautical theme items for my new abode. Love the Thirstystone Nautical Patchwork Coaster Set!

I love that oceanic spiral tile. Also like the nautical chart coasters. A nautical theme is always a true favorite of mine. I am really missing my beach home. Guess for now I have to live the nautical life vicariously through your lenses. Thanks for keeping me in touch with my love of the ocean. :-)
