Oiled-brushed bronze appliances are the new stainless steel.

We were fortunate enough to have our kitchen remodeled by the DIY Network, unfortunately, the remodel wasn't free, but it was reduced in cost and completed in only 15 days.

The highlight of our new gourmet kitchen are our Jenn Air appliances: dishwasher, refrigerator, built-in microwave, double ovens, and trash compactor. Jenn Air appliances are pretty great on their own, but what makes our kitchen special is that we didn't go with the typical stainless steel appliance covers; we did not want the same industrial appliance look that it seems 90% of the American population desires; we went with oiled-brushed bronze appliance covers, and even though we had to pay extra for the brand and the covers, we couldn't be happier with the outcome!

Stainless Steel vs Oiled Bushed Bronze

Stainless steel appliances are difficult to keep pristine; some folks resort to keeping the plastic covering on as along as possible. Tacky.

Stainless steel appliances smudge and scratch easily; the oiled brushed bronze appliances do not show smudges and scratches, as easily as their stainless steel counterparts. I use Windex and a paper towel to keep my appliances sparkling. No expensive fancy cleaner needed.

Stainless steel appliance look cold. We wanted our kitchen to feel warm and inviting. The oiled brushed bronze appliances flow seamlessly with our cabinets, so when you walk into the kitchen you notice the beauty of the space, rather than glaring at the stark kitchen appliances.

Not Your Aunt's Appliances

When I was researching the oiled brushed bronze appliances, I came across several blogs where folks said that the appliances looked like something their aunt had in 1970. These folks admitted that they had never actually seen the appliances in person, only in a television program or ad. Folks said that the oiled brushed bronze appliances were 'brown' and looked outdated.

I couldn't disagree more! There is a brownish hue, but that is what bronze looks like. If you walk around the aisles of any Loews or Home Depot, you will notice hundreds of bronze accessories for the bath and kitchen. Why are bronze accessories so popular? Because they are beautiful looking and easy to care for.

Oiled brushed bronze is definitely not your aunts crappy brown appliances from 45 years ago.

If you are in the process of remodeling your kitchen, I highly suggest that you move past the stainless steel craze and look to the future by using something unique.

According to a Consumer Report, stainless steel's dominance over other large-appliance colors could be waning. But wait---don't jump on the newest appliance bandwagon: white appliances. In ten years, your white appliances will be just like 90% of your neighbors'.

Color outside the lines, be creative, and dare to be unique and different by embracing the look and quality of oiled brush bronze appliances.

To be honest, there is one drawback to my beautiful kitchen refrigerator: it is not magnetic. So no cute photos or creative magnets holding up mementos on my fridge--just the look of pristine beauty. For ten bucks you can buy a bulletin board and keep your kitchen space uncluttered.

Just got from Searsoutlet scratch and dent French door fridge and double oven. Thanks for your post. I was looking for an alternate for stainless steel - because my hubby was done with it and I stumbled onto the oiled bronze and loved it too. Will post a picture when everything is installed. Thanks for your post, it helped me in seeing/envision how it could look in our new kitchen.

I have the suite too and adore it. The only place to still buy is Sears Outler scratch and dent. Such a shame. I hoped it was a trend too. Nice comments.

I would think, at least I hope, that we would be able to find the covers somewhere. The appliances will still be in stock, it is the cover color that is being discontinued.

I am saddened to hear about the covers being discontinued! I was hoping that if we are ever have the opportunity to move to a new area that I would get the same appliances in my new one; we love the color that much! They are so easy to clean, with Windex and a paper towel. The color is really cool. Did you try Gerhard's? The outside is basically just a cover that goes on the appliance, so if you stay with the Jenn Air, perhaps you can use your original cover to cover any new appliance that you may need to purchase in the future.

I'm looking at purchasing a set but this color has been discontinued. Little worried about the fact that if one appliance fails there is no easy solution for finding a matching appliance. Thoughts?
