Nursery Bedding

Updated on July 12, 2009

Nursery bedding sets for a baby’s room comes in a wide variety of styles, colors, patterns, fabrics, and more.  You could buy bedding that matches the Disney baby furniture waiting patiently for you little one, or you could decorate the room in bright colors with no particular theme at all.  Selecting the right nursery bedding sets isn’t very difficult when you keep in mind a few of the following tips.

The sets or separates question comes down to whether or not you are going to use everything in the nursery baby bedding set. Most of these sets come with a crib sheet, comforter, and bumper pads with a few other items thrown in.  Comforters should only be used for decorative purposes and some parents are not comfortable with bumpers. If you are not sure about using the bumper pads or the comforter then purchase all bedding piece by piece.

Baby Bedding Sets

Themed bedding sets, such as Disney nursery bedding, frog nursery bedding, or a gorgeous girl or baby boy nursery bedding set are all popular decor options. Disney sets often depict a lot of characters in fun poses, such as Micky Mouse, Winnie the Pooh, Snow White, Tigger, The Little Mermaid and other cherished characters. A lot of these sets comes with a multitude of accessories to offer a complete Disney theme to decorate a babies room. With hundreds of different nursery bedding sets to choose from, it shouldn't be a problem to select a theme to complment the overall design and decoration of a babies room.

Always purchase crib bedding that will be soft against your baby’s delicate skin.  T-shirt knit material for the summer and flannel for the winter are fun and soft, but if you prefer cotton, go for sheet sets that have a higher thread count.  Make sure they will wash easily and in the machine.  Your baby is going to be messy and go through a lot of sheets.  Always make sure you have at least three or four extra sets in the house, and use a crib mattress cover that makes bedding changes very easy and keeps the mattress dry.

Nursery crib bedding sets should fit the mattress snugly so that the baby cannot get beneath it or have it bunched up around their faces.  Most of the sets sold on the market today are standard and fit the wide range of mattresses available today.  If you want an extra measure of safety, strap the sheets in place beneath the mattress with the elastic clips that you would use for your own bed, but in smaller, baby proof sizes.

Whether or not you go for the expensive nursery bedding set is entirely up to you.  If you think family members will use the sets once your baby has outgrown them or if you are going to use them in conjunction with a toddler bed, you may want to opt for buying the more expensive or high-quality items simply so they last up to the beating your baby will give them as they get older.
