Is There Space for a Nursery?

If you are limited for space in your home or you already have kids that occupy the rooms in your house then you will need to find a space in your home to make a nursery for your baby to come.

You don't have to compromise your space by turning the entire home upside down but you do need to find a space that is comfortable for the baby as well as suitable for you too.

If you have a fairly big bedroom then this is a perfect opportunity for you to create a little nursery and still have enough room for you and your partner to have a private area of your own.

Looking for a space in your home for baby needs to be thought out carefully as you cannot put the baby in the kitchen, bathroom or lounge because these areas are just not appropriate for a nursery.

Sharing with other siblings might also be a heavy duty to offload especially if they are at school and they need to get some sleep.

So where do you put the baby room then?

You can make a baby room practically anywhere where you have extra space and for now, I am going to make it in your bedroom.

Making Space For the Nursery

A corner space is a good idea as you can paint and keep this area separate and allow for a little nursery within your own space, without compromising your privacy and avoiding it to look over crowded.

The colours that you use can match up with your space if you want it to but you can also make baby space a completely separate room to yours with a few easy steps.

By putting the baby's room in the corner of your room it will allow baby to feel safe and you have walls that can be painted and decorated too.

Having a bed next to your bed is fine but do you really want to live like that?

If your space is small then you don't have too many options but you can make it a separate area to where you are so that it feels like you have a nursery.

All you need is some clever thinking, some creativity and yes....you will need to let go of some of your clutter.

Have you decorated a baby room?

DIY Baby Room - What you Need

Firstly if you have a dressing table or any extra items or ornaments lying around your room, you might have to consider getting rid of it or placing it in storage until the baby has its own space.

You then need to find the perfect corner in the room for the nursery to be and you should avoid putting the baby near a window or plug point.

The space you choose should be an area where you would be able to paint and decorate without getting into mommy and daddy space so that you feel you also have a sanctuary of your own.

There are so many ways to decorate and separate your room to make it look like you have a nursery and it won't cost you much either.

You can go to a hardware store and take a look at the peel off stickers that they sell. Most places sell Disney stickers and these can be easily removed once you are done with them.

Instead of painting you can simply just add the stickers onto the corner wall in the area that you have selected for baby.

A divider is also a good idea if you would like to have some space between you and the baby to give you and your partner some privacy. You can either make one if you have the time or buy one from a local store but shop around for the best price and ensure that you get yourself the four divider one, not the three divider as this one would be too small.

Find a theme that you would like to have for the baby area and stick to that as this will help you when shopping and it will give you some ideas to use that will not cost you too much. When you do not have an idea of what you are wanting to do, then this is when things get costly as you add on and add on without thinking.

Paint can get expensive so look for the stickers first or alternatively find some picture or frames that can be hung onto the wall without having to do anything with it.

Just make it bright and happy as this is all the baby can see and he/she will not care how you have decorated and how much the paint cost you either.

I have a few ideas here that will make you feel as though you have a separate room for baby and it will not take away your space and make you feel like you are all crammed into one tiny space.

Firstly you will need to have a look at the area that you want to use for the baby room and you need to consider what will be in the room for you to have an idea of how much space you will need.

Baby doesn't need much space for the first year or two so all you need to put there is a cot, drawers as you need place to store clothing, nappies and everything to do with baby. A changing station is also needed and this will not take up too much space so a corner will be just fine.

Forget about a rocking chair and all the little things that you don't need if you want to have space as any extra items will make your room look small and stuffy. Get only what you need and it can still look good.

There are so many ways to change your room without compromising your space or privacy but you can also match up the baby area to your theme if it isn't too grown up and dark. Holiday themed rooms are always a good idea and it can be for both mom and dad and the new edition to the family.

The trick about decorating your room and making space for a baby is to keep it a simple and clutter free as possible because the more you have the less space you will have and this will make you feel uncomfortable.

Getting rid of items in your room can be difficult but it is temporary and you don't have to sell the items just store them or find another area for them.

If you have the space then that is great but for those who don't, you need to simplify and decrease the items that you really don't need.

A divider is a good idea if you don't want to change the theme in your space and you want to keep the baby area as childish as possible without it feeling like you have lost your adulthood and your privacy.

Baby Room in Mom and Dad's Space

Once you have found the area in your room to put your baby, we can then start to decorate and pretty it up for when baby comes.

Wallpaper or peel on stickers is an idea that we will be using as it saves you money on paint and you can change the design when you feel like it without damaging walls or having to repaint.

Find a theme that you would both like as long as it is bright and happy for baby. Don't think of matching it up to the décor in your room as this area is going to be separate to your space.

Disney is a great way to decorate for baby as it is colourful and happy and there is a lot that you can add together to make it look comfortable and happy.

The wallpaper can be bought from a hardware store and even in some baby stores so take a look around and shop for the best ones.

You will need to add a bin to the room for a quick throw as you have no time to walk to a bin somewhere else. This can match your theme and be placed nearest to the end of the room so that you have quick access to empty it out.

Shelves are a good idea too and you can place two of them on either side of the wall space to add extra little items if you would like.

The wallpaper or peel off stickers can change the entire feel of the room or space so be adventurous and don't be afraid to spread it through the entire baby area.

A good idea is to add a little mosquito net to the room and this can be hung directly above the cot from the ceiling. You can either drape it down over the cot or you can add two nets with a design on them to divide into two separate sections over the cot. Take a look at what I mean in the pictures.

Wallpaper and Stickers for Baby's Room

If you have created a space where your baby will be and you have divided the area than wallpaper or stickers can make it look like a real nursery. Your room can be kept the same and baby's area can be a completely new environment with a simple little thing....wallpaper. You find the peel off stickers anywhere and they are easy to clean and easy to come off when you no longer need them.

If you have a theme that you would like then finding the right sticker or wallpaper can be difficult but you can find it. If you cannot find the right one then settle for a bright colour and just add frames or pictures to the wall to brighten it up.

Once you have found the wallpaper or stickers that you need, it will be so much easier to begin to decorate the room or space that you have created as you can now blend everything else in to match the walls.

It makes such a big difference to the room and finding linen or matching items will be easier to do once you have done the walls.

Use your imagination and let your inner child come out when doing the decorating and you will see how fantastic it will turn out.
