Picking the Right Wooden Chair

Updated on October 17, 2011

Picking Wood Chairs

Picking the right wooden chair for your needs might be difficult because there are so many great choices to pick from.  Making a list of what you want out of the chair before you buy will help narrow down the list and ensure satisfaction of the purchase.  Wooden chairs can be versatile, add beauty and style to any room in your home or office, and to boot they are comfortable and long lasting.

Wooden chairs give you many options to choose from especially if you opt for hand made craftsmanship.  Amish furniture makers, for instance make their chairs out of cherry,  quarter sawn oak or other fine hardwoods and can make chairs for a single office or an entire restaurant and bar.  The advantage to hand made wooden chairs is that each chair will look unique.  While the crafting and finishing process will be identical on each chair the wood’s natural grain will shine through ensuring that no two pieces are exactly the same.

Selecting a wooden chair also opens up doors to a beautiful world of antiques and old fashioned furniture designs.  Many antique chairs are still serviceable and if not repairs and reproduction pieces are also options.  Antique chairs can serve as single accent pieces on a patio or in a living room.  If a few are missing from a set, some craftsman can reproduce antique wooden chairs to offer the look and feel of an antique without the price of one.

If hand made or antique wooden chairs aren’t what you’re looking for there are still many wooden chairs that are less expensive and still comfortable.  Some still prefer a wooden desk chair with a simple padded seat as an alternative to a high leather backed executive chair.  Single wooden chairs can range in price from about $50 per piece to an excess of several hundred dollars depending on what you want.  Narrow your choices by price range, a particular type of wood, a particular design will make picking the right wooden chair easier.
