Rushwood:The Worst Apartments In Philadelphia

Updated on March 27, 2012

Renter's Nightmare

When it comes to renting apartments in the city of Philadelphia there are many places you can rent that are much better than the Rushwood Apartments on East Keswick Road in Northeast Philadelphia. Before I go into all the negative aspects of this complex, let me, first tell you that when these apartments were managed by Korman Suites the staff was professional, courteous, and treated each of us like a human being. Sadly as with all good things in life, they fade away quite quickly. I can only hope that Korman Suites or a reputable company similar to them would come and take over. One can dream right?

I do not know where the young women who work in this office worked at before but that is beside the point. Their customer service skills are downright despicable and lack anything close to compassion. When you walk in the office, you are treated rudely and with very little respect. I want to add that we pay nearly $900 a month with the water to live here and never be late with your rent or the queens will sick their lawyer right on your tail with not even a moment's notice.

Whenever you call the leasing office for questions, you are given sarcastic remarks and promised someone will get back to you. Guess what you have a better chance of being hit by a thunderbolt before any of those women will call you. If you have something break in your apartment you report it to them and you never see anyone from maintenance arrive well you will but it might be days later. With Korman, most of their response times were within a few hours. That is not the case now unfortunately.

Now remember those nice women I told you worked in the offices that were willing to help you with any concerns. Well I guess Greystar that is the company that owns Rushwood had different plans for their customer service team. It was not but a few months before they let go all the nice women and replaced them with a bunch of cold-blooded piranhas whose main goal is to add everything to your rental bill they can think of. It is interesting to note how quickly they replaced everyone here even down to the women that cleaned the grounds. I have not seen those women in months.

Once upon a time when it was Korman they had delicious coffee and Danish they would serve every morning. Now mind you I have not stopped by in a while but a neighbor recently told me that Rushwood discontinued the Danish and coffee nearly six months ago. On top of that, the so-called business center they have here that is supposed to have working fax machines and computers is now a dwindling memory. The equipment is there but in presence only. I recently tried sending a fax and using the computer and guess what nothing worked. Should that be a surprise for you? If you live here then you know what I mean.

The biggest thing that disturbs me is their rental collection procedures. In all the years, I have been renting places I have never had this experience. For a brief time I was not feeling well and was unable to work and got behind on rent. Now I paid the rent but it was late which I understand a late fee is assessed which here it is $75. That said I want to make note of their collection practices here so you know not to rent here. First, if your rent say for January is not in their rental office by the sixteenth of the month they immediately send you to their lawyer. Not even a few days after that the lawyer sends you a letter threatening to take you to court and adds $50 to your rental bill now you are paying a total of $120 plus if you pay online it is an additional $12 this isn't including the water fee.

Ok so you pay your January rent like I did and pay an additional $140 fees from Rushwood and technically according to your lease your February rent isn't late until the fifth right? Wrong the office Grinch's have already sent you to the lawyer, he is now sending you to tenant court, and you now are looking at $300 on top of your rent for his fees. This is in addition to the $50 you paid in January for him to send you a letter.

This is the situation I find myself in which I will tell you I will pay somehow but I totally disagree with paying $300 for a lawyer when I will have my rent paid in full by February 29th. Making matters worse when you call the office Grinch's they do not respond to you at all and if they do, they are quite rude and uncaring to say the least. I know they are in business to make money, in the two years that I have been here, I have never been late but twice, and they are making this out to be a national crime. They even sent someone to my door to deliver the court papers for the twenty -ninth. Mind you, rent is late after the fifth and it is now the fifteenth I plan to pay tomorrow but I will still have to pay these lawyer fees.

Finally, I would like to add that contacting the management team here is useless. I have emailed the manager several times and to date she has never emailed me or returned any phone calls. My advice is if you are looking for a decent apartment in Philadelphia do not come here because you will surely be miserable.

      Hey Bill,

Is that "Parking Wars" show true that is depicted in the city of brotherly love? The way I see it from watching that, there is no love at all, just the love of money by the city. rofl I know there are other cities also used on that show but I seem to remember so much of Philadelphia and telling myself, man, I'd love to have that job. I love to walk, and well I'm used to getting my butt chewed out. Maybe I'll move East again. lol I know what apts NOT to move into now..besides, I got you to help show me the ropes...being from NY...I can handle it. lol See you in vcc. lol

Hey so sorry for the long delay in writing back. Since my experience I must say thinks have gotten much better. I will say though the neighborhood is changing like much of the city of Philadelphia. I do not want to sound like I'm putting a damper in your plans just saying do a lot of research before you buy.
