Washing machine codes for Samsung top loader washing machine

Choosing a washing machine.

Recently, my washing machine broke after 10 years of dedicated service to my family.

I made a decision to buy a Samsung top loading washing machine (5.0 cu. ft. capacity/high-efficiency) to replace my Whirlpool Duet front loading washing machine.

I wasn't sure a top loader would be ideal because that would mean after being spoiled by a front loader, I would have to do a lot of bending up and down to get the laundry in and out of the washer.

Once it was delivered and I started using it, I found little difference between the ease of using a front loader and top loader. I like them equally the same as far as convenience of loading and unloading.

Tip!
Most washing machines today have mother boards.

Replacement protection policy.

Earlier in the year, my dryer broke for the second time. Luckily, I've kept the protection policy renewed on it so it was serviced for free. While the repair personnel was working on the dryer, he told me that my Whirlpool Duet dryer purchased in 2004 would probably outlast my washing machine. He recommended that I purchase or renew the protection agreement on my washing machine. I'm so glad I listened. For around $100, I got a protection policy that covered repair or replacement.

When my washing machine finally broke, a different repair person told me it would be too costly to fix the drum and baron on the washing machine. He placed a call on my behalf to Sears and they authorized a very generous replacement dollar amount. I was even told to go pick out my new washer. They delivered and hooked up my new Samsung top loader washing machine at no extra charge.

Features.

After relying solely on my old Whirlpool Duet front loading washing machine, it was rather intimidating to set foot down the washing machine aisles. The big hunks of steal framed bodies looking out over the crowds of mall shoppers, lighting up their mother boards like Christmas trees.

Prices ranged from $700 to $1500 for a brand new front loader or top loader washing machine.

I really wanted another front loader until I saw the Samsung top loader enticing me with its smooth dark glass top surface and shiny silver trim around its white frame. It looked simple enough. It didn't come with the complicated settings and steam features that most other machines endorsed. I wasn't sure if I could even figure out how to use steam. All I need to know is how to put the dirty laundry in the machine, how to turn it on, and how to remove it all and stick it in the dryer.

Size really does matter when you are purchasing a washing machine.

First of all you have to consider, it is going to fit in the space one's home allows for a washing machine?

Is it going to slide nicely between the door frames without getting stuck and scratched?

The moment I opened the top of the Samsung top loading washing machine, I knew I had to have it. It was mine. It was so big. The inner capacity threshold for clothing was enormous. It was spacious enough for stuffing a whole basket of clothes at one time, or even a King size blanket!

That was really the final factor in deciding to purchase the Samsung WA50F9A6DSW top loader washer. It is Samsung's largest capacity top loader.

I tested my washer and surely enough it held one tall plastic laundry basket overflowing with pants and shirts, including jeans. My old Whirlpool Duet front loader would not have held all of that at one time. I would have had to break it down in to two loads and do it twice.

I was also as pleasantly surprised when I washed my Queen sized white Ikea comforter in the washing machine.

One rainy day after washing clothes in my bathtub all week and hanging them out to dry, I had no choice but to use the services of the local Laundromat. I noticed the machines were very old and each of them only allowed for a small amount of clothes because there was an agitator in the middle of each machine. The Samsung top loader does not have an agitator. It's one huge space which allows for more clothing at a time.

Some other features of the Samsung top loader are:

  • Vibration reduction to help reduce noise and movement.
  • Energy Star compliant.
  • Smart Care can diagnose error codes without a manual or phone call.
  • Diamond-shaped openings in the drum improve water flow and prevent snagging.
  • Child-proof lock. (This will prevent little Johnny from getting in to any deeper hot water!).

The ultimate question to ask yourself before purchasing the Samsung top loader is how big is your average load?

Delivery and hook-up.

Sears delivered my new Samsung top loader with efficiency and ease. Two men with straps hooked up around their back and necks, then looped under the machine walked through my basement to the laundry area and hooked up the water hoses.

I was worried that my new machine would not fit through the doorways, but there was no problem at all.

The Samsung top loader washing machine has separate compartments for HE detergent, softener and bleach.

The detergent and softener compartments pull out from the back of the washer. The bleach compartment is in the front. Both compartments are shown here in this photo.

Samsung troubleshooting codes.

When my Whirlpool Duet front loader stopped working, my husband and I frantically searched for answers for what a two-digit number and letter was trying to communicate with us. Luckily, I'm a saver. I had saved the original manual from almost 10 years ago.

Still, despite our best efforts, we ultimately had to place a call to Sears to send a repair person to help us.

The Samsung top loader washing machine includes Smart Care technology, which monitors errors, detects them, and diagnoses problems early on. It also provides solutions so that a call to Sears isn't necessary all the time for a simple answer like it was in the case of my Whirlpool Duet.

Common reasons you will need to call for service.

Code
Meaning
IE
Water level sensor error.
LE
Washer has attempted to fill but did not reach the proper water level.
E2
Key is jammed.
AE
Communication errors.
8E, 8E2

0E
Water level sensor error.
nF1
Temperature is above 50 for over 8 seconds on the wool and delicates setting.
PE
Position of the clutch can't be found.
PE1
Clutch hall signal detects error.

What is a washing machine clutch?

While most of us have heard of a "clutch" in a car, some washing machines use a clutch to consume effort brought about by the motor. The clutch allows a progressive transition. A bad clutch in a washing machine is sometimes the cause of wet clothes left at the end of a cycle from the washing machine not spinning hard enough.

The clutch is mounted to the frame of the washing machine which can move freely with the inner washtub.

Common troubleshooting codes and meanings.

Code
What it means
How to fix it
nF
Washer couldn't fill with water.
Check water faucets and hoses. Check inlet screens on the hoses. Remove flood safety device if applicable, then connect water hoses directly to unit.

Tip!

Make sure the hot water supply hose is connected! The hot water is supplied by the Auto Temperature Control function!

Water comes from the blue "ball" shown here instead of inside around the drum.

Conclusion.

If you are in the market for an efficient, economical washing machine, Samsung has a nice line on the market today.

Having used a front loader for the past decade, I thought it would be hard to switch back to a top loading machine.

Features that appealed to me and ultimately provided the reasons for choosing the Samsung washer included:

  • Not too complicated.
  • Easy detergent fill compartments.
  • Deep drum for huge loads.
  • Easy to dump a load of clothes right in to the drum (always check pockets first for gum, candy wrappers, loose change, nuts and bolts, or other objects that mysteriously show up after clothing has been washed).
  • Light-up front panel, easy on the eyes.
  • Quietness, less vibration and noise.
  • Right size for moving in and out of laundry area.
  • Unbreakable top with the look of glass.
  • Child-safety lock to prevent children and pets from jumping in!

At this time, I'm not sure this machine comes in any other color besides white. It honestly didn't make much difference to me once I started using the machine and found it better than any before that I've owned.

Hi Brenda! Thank you for commenting. FL means failure to lock. If the washer is not locking, you may need to call for repair service. If your machine is no longer under warranty, you can call Sears. I've had really good experiences with Sears warranty service.

Oh, and in speaking with the Sears rep, I did find out that now most washing machines have a mother board (as recently as 4 years ago). I said, great, something else to break! LOL

Well, I guess I have a couple of years then... maybe. LOL. It's good to know what goes wrong with the Whirlpools now. I appreciate you letting me know, Crafty. :-)

I had the same pair. My dryer broke twice and it was the mother board both times. The first time I did not have the protection agreement, so thankfully Sears let me purchase it before they came out and serviced it. I renewed it this year and the mother board broke again! But it's fixed now. The repairman said dryers last a lot longer than washers. I went ahead and bought the repair plan. My washer was 10 years old.

Thank you for a very useful hub, Crafty! I have the Whirlpool Duet front loaders. I thought I would really like the front loading washing machine, but I actually miss the top loader. It's much easier to remove garments, in my opinion. I don't know how long the Whirlpools will last. I have had mine for 8 years now, but I will definitely keep the Samsungs in mind if I have to replace them. I usually always go with Sears (like you did) as they provide the best sales and service. :-)

Thank you for your comments! I just love it! I can throw a huge load of clothes right in without trying to do the balancing act of re-arranging all the clothes to make sure they are all evenly distributed around the agitator! LOL

I'm glad I read this. Both our washer and dryer, while still operable, provide us with hints that they're about ready to go on the fritz. What I really like about this Samsung model is that there's no agitator. Ours has actually come loose during a spin cycle, and it spooks the heck out of us when we're keeping busy with quiet projects. Thanks for sharing! Aloha, craftytothecore!
