Save Some Money Just By Cleaning Your House

Updated on December 25, 2014

Don’t like house-cleaning? Me neither. But here are 6 ways that you can actually make or save some money just by cleaning up your act.

1. Clean and Organize your Closets,Garage, Basement, or Attic

Clean out your storage areas and get rid of all the things you don’t need. You could have a garage sale, put them on Craigslist, or sell them on Amazon or EBay and make a little money for your wallet. Sell the clothes you can't wear any more at a resale or consignment shop. Or donate your items to the Goodwill or other charity and count them as donations on your income tax return next year.

2. Clear the Clutter

You might find some loose change under the couch cushions. Or how about that rebate check you never cashed? Organize that paperwork, savings all of the receipts, bills or checks that you can use for flex spending or on your income tax return.

3. Clean Out the Refrigerator

Can’t see over the take-out boxes and leftover bowls? A clean fridge makes it easier to see what you have to eat and cuts down on food waste.

4. Disinfect the Kitchen and Bathrooms

You’ll prevent illness caused by bacteria and germs and thus save on doctor and medicine bills. Also you and your family will have less sick time off from work or school.

5. Control Dust and Pet Dander

Vacuuming and dusting more often will remove mold spores, dust mites, and pet dander. This will help with allergy and other health problems.

6. Wash and Wax the Car

Keeping your car clean helps to prevent rust and gives you pride in ownership. Also you might find some loose change in the glove box or cup holders. Every penny helps.

Don’t just do spring cleaning. Keep your house and car clean and save a little money all year long.

What are some ways that you have found to save money at your house?

Thanks vocalcoach. I appreciate your kind words. I'm in the process of moving so I've been giving a lot to the Goodwill lately.

Well I sure needed this timely hub. Seems like I start a project, get side tracked and never finish :-) I like your tips. Why do I hate giving up clothes I never wear? Thanks for the motivation and voting up!
