The 5 Best Conical Burr Grinders

Updated on June 20, 2011

Conical burr grinders are the best because they produce a better grind then other types of coffee grinders. They come in a wide range of sizes, styles, colors, and are made by a huge number of different companies. Looking at all the boxes or pictures can be overwhelming and can make it difficult to know which ones really are the best conical burr grinders.

The $100 Range

There are two burr grinders that are worth mentioning in the lower price range. Each of these are about $100 each. The Capresso Infinity Conical Burr Grinders have a lot of really good reviews. They can handle 8.5 ounces of coffee beans, they have 16 distinct settings for different grinds, and they won't take up a ton of counter or cupboard space. The other choice is the Bodum Bistro Electric Burr Coffee Grinders. These machines cost about the same, are also small, have 14 settings, and come in a wide range of new fashionable colors that other machines don't come in.

The $200 Range

If you have the money then you might want to consider picking out a more expensive machine like the Baratza Virtuoso Coffee Grinder. It will cost you about $200. At the same time the 8 ounce hopper will grind you enough coffee and the 40 settings should help you find the perfect grind for you and your coffee needs.

The $300 Range

Next you will find the Ranicilio Rocky Burr Coffee Grinders. These machines cost about $350. You can choose one that has a collection container or one that grinds right into the filter of your espresso machine. This is a neat feature allowing you to choose the option easier for you. It also holds more coffee with a 10.5 ounce hopper and has 55 settings for different grinds. The down side is that it is huge and takes up 14 by 10 by 5 inches and weighs in at 12 pounds! None the less it has a lot of great reviews!

The $400 Range

Finally you have the Baratza 885 Vanio Espresso Coffee Grinder. This machine will cost you a whopping $450. For that you will be able to use digital features including programming options. The machine itself holds 8 ounces of beans and it has 230 distinct settings. Another cool thing is that this machine is good for up to 50 cups of coffee each day making it acceptable for both home use and light use in a business setting. It also has ceramic burrs that are supposed to last twice as long as steel ones.

How much you have to spend is going to influence the conical burr grinders you look at. However, there are a few machines in each category that will allow you to make a great cup of coffee day after day. You will need to find the best conical burr grinder for you!
